Now this is just on paper and not on all different bullets. 6.5X55 has taken more animals in Africa than any other caliber including Elephant.
The 260 and 6.5 Creed are on the market, but when handloading come on to play the 260 shines. these are the 6.5s that started it all. The 6.5X55 has a hard time because of LA. which really doesn't matter

Now with hand loading and all the newer bullets we ll have great choices. i really like some of the older 6.5s coming out. MY favorite is the 260 but now with a little more punch the 6.5 X284 which is almost the same a "F" Class "6.5 06" that has taken many Meets and set records.
I personally think that the 6.5 with the right bullet composition, right twist and weight along with the right powder can take any animal in the world.
We see more on more hunters going to the mag 264 cartridge, You will also need everything I said before along with a barrel twist to handle the size of the bullet. 6.5 bullet is inherently a very aerodynamic designed bullet. You just need to get the weight, bullet composition, and the twist of the rifle barrel.
We have several 6.5mm Krieger barrels stored away for some real nice "F" Class Comp,, Just waiting on JGS for the Reamers.
Which ever way you go with a 6.5mm you will do well!!!!!

Yeah, the 6.5x55 Swede is a fantastic cartridge, and the others are right up there, I think just for kicks, and because I have one I'd go with the 6.5x55mm and never worry.
On the African thing, are you sure you're not thinking about the 6.5x57mm Mauser? and Walter D.M. "Karamojo" Bell, and I think he used a 7x57mm Mauser though many say he had a 6.5x57mm Mauser with him, that he "may" have capped a few with. Just thinking out loud. Cheers

I have a 6.5x55 and like it a lot. But does anyone shoot/plink with the 120 class bullets? Seems like the 123 bullets would make a great sub 500yd, light recoil, practice round.

Fyi with R26 you can get 2900 fps in the creed with a 140 class bullet. Berger has 2977 for their 135 classic with R26. This is very close to the 6.5 284.

I shoot Sierra 120gr Pro Hunters in my 260, they shoot great out of the Shilen 1-9 twist barrel.

I have taken, many deer , sika, hogs, audad, Corsican, mouflon, oryx, with mine. It's a great calibers. Anything 0-600 it's my go to with the123-124 hammers.
Brought it out on my elk hunt this year also.
Great little round if it wasn't for people selling it as something it's not a replacement for the 300 win mag.

I think this mentality could be shared among all the mid powered 6.5's. Within their limits they all are devastating on game, but require education on what they can not do effectively.

My .260 shoots good it's just heavy with the muzzle diameter of 0.850".

Being LH my options for a hunting weight rifle were limited if I wanted a LH rifle.

I scored a LH Ruger Predator off GB for less than it would cost to have another barrel spun up in .260.

Unfortunately 7mm-08 was the only choice I could select but then the old Nosler.260 brass sure did come in handy after a trip thru the 7mm-08 FL sizer die.

Let's see someone do that with anything Creedmore.
