I assume that the source that lee31 and the one Sable and I referred to are different??? I agree with Mudrunner--I don't see Berger doing this anytime soon. I have multiple 6mms and a couple 6.5s including 6.5 x 284 and 6.5 Saum, but I think a 132 grain vld in .25 would be the cat's meow. I admit, I am a .257 supporter as I have shot almost everything Wyoming has to offer with a single shot in .257 Roy and never once had to reload.

Same here, I'm definitely a 1/4-bore supporter, but I know it's limitations, and I also know it's reality...Just like every other caliber bullet has its place. Like you said, a 132 .257 VLD/Hybrid should destroy the 6.5mm bullets up to around 140 grains, but wouldn't beat the 6.5mm bullets above that weight class, like the 155-160's.

I just hope this .257 VLD becomes a reality and gains traction. I have been hassling the big makers as best I can for years now to get going on a 130-135gr VLD hunting bullet for this cal. I am close to getting a Whidden Pointing kit to sleek up the 117gr Hornady BTSP Intlk as a desperate measure so this is good news. My .25-06 Rem Sendero has taken truck loads of plains game over the years, mostly Springbuck. It printed a 47mm 3 shot group at 850m with the 117gr H SPBT as well. Fantastic cartridge and rifle. Busy with a .25-06 Rem in a Ruger No 1 B with 26" fluted Sendero profile as well. Would love to get a 1 in 7,5" twist for it but I guess it will take a year or 2 for these barrels to migrate down to S Hemisphere if they even make them.
If we get the bullet we can push for the barrels. Keep pressure on guys...I will be watching and hope you can make it happen for us all. I posted on PRS site a year or two ago about using the .257 Cal but it got little support.

Looks like I missed out.
Years ago, when the WSM case first came to light, a buddy and I built 2 identical rifles on stainless Win Model 70 standard actions, not the short WSM actions.
Anyway, we built 25 Pronghorns, as they were known by then, and pulled our hair out trying to get a powder that would burn correctly in that case/bore. The ONLY powder that didn't soot the entire case and dent the body was RE25, even H1000 would not burn properly.
In the end, we both removed those barrels, I rebarreled with a 270 Weatherby and never looked back.

Funny thing, up until a few months ago, I had a rough chambered barrel in 6.5x284 Norma sitting in a sock for the last 12 years, I re-chambered it to 264WM at a finished length of 31", just for ***** and giggles, yet to fire a shot out of it, just had surgery on my carpal tunnel injury. So as soon as I can, I will be giving the 129gr ABLR & 142gr ABLR a run through it to see just how much velocity I can ring out of it.

I truly believe the 25-284 is a twin to the 25-06, which I have myself. The 115gr Berger is the only VLD I've ever used in my 25-06, very accurate bullet, so a higher BC and a heavier bullet can only be a good thing if you have a fast twist barrel.

I'm in for another 1000 just as soon as they become available. Always loved the 25-06 its my go to although I have a 6.5 SAUM, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5-06 and a host of other calibers but I just cant help but love the 25-06 with my 115 Bergers just such a bad *** round. I am loosing sleep over this I'm so pumped about finally getting a modern 257 bullet option.

That .257 bullet is a MONSTER! See if they have an extra box they can send me... I'd love to make up some dummy rounds in my .25-06 AI and .257 Wby brass... And find my OAL to the lands in my .25-06 AI to see how deep it will be seated, so I need to know if will need to have a custom cut throat on the next reamer.

I'd also love to take a picture of one right next to one of my 7mm 195 Elite Hunters... Bet that would be interesting.

I have a 450 Dakota that I shortened to the same length as a 308 put a long neck on it and made it 25 caliber.
It will beat weatherby by 200fps.
Unfortunately It is 1-10 twist.

25/284 with any kind of vld is a long action build. Lee31's pictures makes this point all too plain to see. I had trouble with 115g Nosler Ballistic tips and OAL in a Remington 700 std mag length with the 25/284, and this was a very costly lesson to learn. Nosler Long range accubonds like to jump .120 or a tad more in 7mm, all other VLD's I have shot are picky on OAL they demand for accuracy.

There is around 6 oz of weight difference between a Rem long action and short action...no big deal. I just hope that you do not make the mistake that I made putting the 25/284 cartridge on a short action and want to shoot VLD bullets. My 25/284 was a rock chuck rifle and of course I needed to be able to chase the lands as the leade grew. Just imagine how ****ed I was when I could not touch the lands with the bullet seated at max magazine OAL in a brand new rifle! So, two barrels were shot out as single shots. The barrel would not shoot well at all jumping bullets, but when I seated the 115's up against the lands, I got bug holes.
