25-06 Reminigton info please

That's factory .257 Wea. speed with a 115BT!! Makes me wonder what my 25-06AI Sendero can do!

If you read on reloaders nest there's guys getting over 3500 fps with .25-06 AI's and 110 or 155 Bergers.

I am building a .25-06 AI Sendero as well. I have a Sendero SF .25-06 barrel, but curious what the twist rate is, as well...I have read 1:10, but still aren't positive. Does anyone have a definite?

I got 3500 fps with the 110's but the 115's shot a little better so i went with them.

Yes, 1:10

Hi Guys, with the help of my gunsmith I have converted a P17 (M17) action to a 25 06 Remington. The top of the action has been machined flat and Leupold Duel Dovetail mounts with a Leupold VX1 4x12x40 Scope. 25" barrel re-crowned and blued, timney trigger, a hand made Walnut stock with a Anshutz type check rest and a Harris bi-pod. It still has the six shot magazine. I am looking for any comments or load data or suggested projectiles etc Basically any info anyone has to share about this cartridge. It is not a popular round here in New Zealand but from what I have read it will handle any of the game we have. I also want to compete in the local deer stalkers association range shoots.
I am wanting a Varmint round and a deer round. I already have 87gr Sierra Varmints, 90 gr Sierra Blitzkings, 90 gr Sierra Gamekings and 100gr and 117gr Sierra ProHunters. These are what I load and shoot with my .303-25 so it would be good to use them in my 25-06.
I am keen on Long range varminting for Bunnies as we have heaps of them where I live and hunting Ferral Goats, Pigs and deer- Fallow and Reds.
Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers Land Rover gun)
IMHO, forget about using the 25-06 for varmints, it's far better as a big game cartridge.
For what you want to hunt, any bullet 100gr or heavier will do the job. I really like Nosler bullets in this cartridge, they hold up well to the high impact velocities this cartridge produces.
I am a big fan of the 110gr Accubond for deer, and 100gr BT's for goats and pigs. I've also used 115gr Partitions on fallow and red deer, they work very well, but the 110 is more accurate in my rifle.
As to powders, here's a list of loads I've used, I'm including varmint loads because like you I was dazzled by how fast they were, but learnt there are better cartridges for this, particularly the 22-250 which uses much less powder and has far less recoil.
Sierra 75gr HP, 760 55gr, Win/Rem brass, WLR Primer, 3699fps.
Sierra 87gr HP, 2209 54gr, Win/Rem brass, WLR Primer, 3600fps.
Speer 87gr SP, 2209 52.5gr, Rem brass, WLR Primer, 3600fps.
Speer 100gr SP, RE22 56gr, Rem brass, WLRM Primer, 3348fps.
Nosler 100gr BT, RE22 56gr, Rem brass, WLRM Primer, 3350fps.
Nosler 110gr AB, RE22 56gr, Rem brass, WLRM Primer, 3243fps.
Nosler 115gr PT, RE25 57.5gr, Rem brass, WLRM Primer, 3266fps.
Nosler 120gr PT, RE22 52gr, Rem brass, WLRM Primer, 3030fps.
There you go, a heap of loads in a nutshell.
Please work up from 5% below, none are maximum loads except the 120gr load which is MAX listed.

Cheers.

Yeah, the 110's shot good out of my .257 Wby, but these 115 Bergers are shooting a little better.

How much life did you get out of your .25 AI?

It was just a straight up 25-06, not an AI. RL17 gave great velocities. 200 fps over Retumbo which was the next fastest load.

I bought the rifle used and after my first cleaning session with it, which lasted a couple of days, I took it to a local smith for a bore scope and he said it was one of the worse fire cracked bores he had ever seen. That was right after I shot a .224 group with it using factory ammo that came with the rifle.

After that I worked up loads with Retumbo and RL17 and some other powder I can't remember ATM with the 115 CT's and 110 AB's. I went with the 115 CT's and RL17 because they gave me 3400 fps and .3- .5 MOA accuracy in this rifle. The 110's and RL17 gave me 3500 fps and about .5 -.6 accuracy.

the 115 CT's are the Combined Technology bullets, not the Bergers. Never tried the Bergers but next time, if I ever get another 25-06, which is not likely, they will sure get a try out. If I do go with another 25 cal, it will be a 25-284 and/or a 257 Montana

Why not give a .257 Wby a shot? I love mine. It's what helped me gain the respect of the 1/4 bores for hunting deer-sized game.

A couple of reasons, I am not a fan of the double radius shoulder and I am not a fan of belted cases. I got 257 WBY performance out of my 25-06 with RL17 and that was fine by me. My next 25 cal will be either a 257 Montana (off the 7 Dakota) or a 25-284 I would like both. The 257 Montana will be a good candidate for RL33 and should be able to push 115 gr bullets over 3600, maybe 3700. The 25-284 will have the same capacity as the 25-06 and I'll be able to use Lapua brass. The 7 Dakota brass is a good quality Norma.

I figured since we were on the subject of .25-06's......This is my newest build....It will be a Sendero .25-06 Ackley Improved. I just got all my parts in, now it's time to find the money to take it to the smith to have everything trued, headspaced, and fitted up properly. The gun is just in mock-up form right now, sitting in the safe, just to get an idea of what it will turn out like when I'm done.
