Is there any books that have reloading data for this load? Only place I have found is reloadersnest.com. I can't seem to find much info on this load and it looks really intriguing. Are guys really getting 257 weatherby velocities out of it? Thanks in advance.

I know two guys shooting guns in this caliber (built at the same time with same reamer and barrels) and they are getting just over 3400fps out of a 27" Shilen barrel with a stout load of R-22 , one claims to get 3900 fps with a 75gr V-max bullet. Knowing these two boys I'm sure that they are shooting max loads .

Yes sir, you can find plenty of load data in Sierra Manual #5. I have posted a couple of my loads on reloadersnest.com also, for speer 87 tnt and 100 grain SMK, under not verified loads. I get 3600 with my 87 grain load, IMR 4350 can go faster too. I think 3900 fps is doable with the 75 grain V-max, I have 10 boxes but they don't shoot good with this particular barrel (1-10, 3 groove). Good luck with this chambering, its been alot of fun. In a standard 25-06 I have gotten 3900fps with 414 and 75gr Vmax.With a115 Berger VLD 3200fps the powder of chioce is VHIT N165. This in a Ruger KM77VT 26" My cases were formed from National Match 30-06.In an improved version these velocity's should be doable with no trouble. I have found the N165 is slower than the loades in the vhit manual indicate.

I have one built on a Ruger All Weather. 100 grain Partitions top out at 3525 with IMR-4350. I also load 75 grain V-Max's to 3850.

I wouldn't call it 257Wby performance but a solid 150 fps over the parent case. It is worth doing.

My 257Wby in an Accumark runs the same bullets at 3700 and 3950 respectively.

If you have a 26" barrel I would just go ahead and make it a 257Wby. Then your brass is ready made.

Azbroncfan, if I were you, I would build a 6x284 for the following reaons;

1. Lapua Brass
2. Better bullet selection
3. No fireforming

I guess it also depends on what bullets you want to shoot. The 6x284 with a 30", 1-12 twist barrel will push a 75grn V-Max at 3950fps, the 87grn V-Max at 3750fps.

If you go with the 1-10 twist barrel, the 6x284 will shoot the 87grn V-Max very well and it will shoot the 105 and 107grn bullets well too. The 6x284, with a 30" 1-8 twist barrel barrel, will push a 105 and 107grn bullets at around 3450 to 3500fps.

The 25-06 AI is a good cartridge too, however, you have to do a bunch of brass prep and fireforming in order to get what you want out of it. I don't think all the case prep and fireforming is worth it.

The 257Wby in a 30" barrel is a thing to behold.

100 grain bullets at 3950.
75-85 grain bullets at 4100+

If target bullets are your thing, Berger and Wildcat has a few VLD offerings in .257"

The 25-06 AI is a good cartridge too, however, you have to do a bunch of brass prep and fireforming in order to get what you want out of it. I don't think all the case prep and fireforming is worth it.

Whats so hard about shooting full strength 25-06 Rem. loads with bullets seated long, while shooting targets, varmints and rocks etc.? Huh? I use Norma brass, yeah some say its soft. I have shot this brass over a year now, I have bumped the shoulders once. What case prep.

Nothing. I don't even do that for my 25-06AI. I found I do need to trim my brass for length a bit shorter than spec but after that I load full strength improved loads and go hunting. My chamber has the perfect .004" crush fit so I seat just off the rifling or to the magazine box or with 75 grain bullets I only seat .150" into the case then go hunting/shooting.

These groups were all fired with the 100 grain Sierra Matchking @ 3300 fps. Imr-4350.

Here's a rockchuck shot at 535 yrds with my 87 grain load, little windy and it took me three close shots and a not so smart rockchuck. Pictured with my rifle, A Remington 700 Sendero. Factory trigger and stock. Barrel a Lilja.
