64E39323-4BDF-4126-8379-011110A29787.jpeg Caliber: 338
Bullet: 236gr Hammer Hunter
Impact: 2200fps
Medium: 5soaked phone books separateing 5milk jugs
Weight retention: 143gr
Result: center through 1st book expansion started as exiting In 1st jug continuing into 2nd book, expanding into base and 5 pedals making a starburst wound channel(see marks on picture). Each pedal weighs average of 20gr and scattered out in jug 3. Base continued through jug 4 and stuck in book 5.
Closing thoughts: bullet preformed exactly as advertised from Hammer for quick expansion and over 50% weight retained, I would like to test again at minimum advertised velocity expansion of 1800fps

Thanks, I'm interested to see what Steve's comment is.

Was this from a 338 Federal? Did you measure muzzle velocity?

Yes, I Magneto speed the MV velocity out of a 338fed mild load

Steve,
You sent me these about 2weeks ago in a sample pack. I am not upset, in fact I was pleased. Guess it depends on what a guy is looking for.

Mostly tagging in.

It took me a little staring, and a couple of times looking, but I think I see what Steve is concerned about.

Like the OP it looks good to me. In the beginning I was worried about the petals stopping as soon as they came off. I get more encouraged by posts/pics of how far they're going on their own. Especially at these velocities.

Thanks for Posting!

This is the bullet I use in my .338 RUM. Do not have pictures but shot a rather large cow at less than 100 yards this year. The load at the muzzle is somewhat mild @ 2900 FPS so I'm guessing impact was in the 2800 range. First shot was broadside behind shoulder, 2nd was almost straight away (skimmed back leg) and exited base of neck area. Total devastation on this cow's innards, lungs were almost liquified and the intestines/stomach shredded (don't want to gut something like that again). I am happy with the bullets performance. Interested in your lower velocity testing, standing by.

The petals tore to much. We want to see them detach at the hollow point depth and not make a new point on the retained shank.

The petals are fairly devastating in their own right. It is the retained shank that we concentrate on most.

It's not the same bullet nor the same caliber but I got 30 in of penetration including the four fragments with a 130 grain 6.5 caliber sledgehammer going in the front of a pig and Out near the back. Pig was 50 yards from the muzzle. Muzzle velocity was 3100 feet per second.
