.223 vs. 5.56

I played around with GRT changing case volume and load in 223 with 77NCC and N135. Here is what I found

Change case volume 1 gr H2O change velocity about 40 fps.
Change load to correct velocity back to original ~0.4 gr.

This ought to give some perspective in the 223 on what changing case volume will do. As for pressure it went from roughly 50K to 54K psi with a 1 grain decrease in volume.

Interesting!

Actually, both the .223 Rem, M193 ball, and the 5.6x45mm NATO came from the .222 Special, just a name change. The .223 Remington... was first into the sporting rifle game in 1962 in a Remington Model 760 In September 1963, the .223 Remington cartridge was officially accepted and named "Cartridge, 5.56 mm ball, M193" by the government.
Side note: I still have a mint Remington Model 760 pump in .223 Rem from 1962 No you can't shoot M193 or NATO in it. It is deadly accurate however as varmint guns go, it's under 1 MOA at 100 yards with Sierra 55gr bullets. Just my .02 Cheers
