Midway got in some .224 Speer 70gr bullets last week so I ordered couple hundred pieces and today I went and tried to buy some Alliant power pro varmint powder (yeah right) finding 223 reloading components right now is dang near impossible so I have some IMR powder on hand so some of you guys that loads 223 70gr bullets please give me some advice on powder......I have IMR 3031 / IMR 4064 / IMR 4895 / IMR 4831 which of those is my best powder for a hunting load 70gr bullet? I'm not really concerned about speed just accuracy and safe for 18" barrel from from BCA.

I have always ran IMR 4895 in my bolt 223 behind 50-55 grn projectiles. You may not get the best speed, but I think 4895 is the powder you should go with.
Thanks Ross1147....like i said i dont care about speed this is a hog hunting load in my AR.. i looked at IMR load data and it gives recipes for all three but i wanted to go with actual shooters recommendations.

I've been using h335 for years and haven't had any issues. Granted I never shot anything other than targets and a few hogs.

I've probably ran close to 1000+ hornady v-max and a-max through my 223 all backed by IMR 4895. I like it. I've killed deer, antelope, coyotes and squirrels with that load. I run 25.5grns but looking at load data max for the 70grn will be 24.5. Good luck!

I always liked varget or reloader 15 for the heavier pills. Have some 8208xbr I plan to experiment with on 75grbthp. H335 is a favorite for 65gr and under pills.
I live in WNC and have one local source for reloading stuff and today the shelves were pretty much bare. No powder of any kind no primers no .224 bullets no cases. Sad

That sucks. My little hole In the wall in WV is still decently stocked with powder. I just picked up several lbs of rl26, rl15, 8208xbr,an h335 last weekend.

If I were in your shoes I would load a few rounds each with each powder, chrono it, and see which one your rifle likes best. Once I find a powder my rifle likes I stock up on that powder only and nothing else. Mine likes RL 15 reloader with 75 grain Hornady match bullets, gets the job done on hogs and deer as well.
