Patiently waiting for my action and stock to arrive. I am in the process of building a 22 Creedmoor and want to run the 88 eldms. Anyone running this combo with details on their build and load? Planning on running a Bartlein 3B 1:7tw looks like these come in 4 groove. Thoughts on the twist rate and what velocity I should expect from a 26" tube with a mild load?

Thanks in advance.

My Horizon Firearms is a LH Stiller action that I had Derrick build in 2014 Its a 1/8 twist and my normal load is with 75/80 gr but I have ran the 88's with 44.8gr of Reloder 26 and average 3340 from a 24 inch Benchmark.
I have had to chase the lands but it still shoots good and with 75's at last weeks sight check before coyote hunting tourney it Chrono'd 3515fps
Plan to replace barrel later this spring just hoping it will make it thru this season.

^ How many rounds do you have down the tube? How many rounds would you say before chasing the lands each go round? I know the 22 CM is a hot rodded .22 cal so I expect a shorter barrel life. When you replace the barrel are you sticking with 1:8tw? or going to 1:7 tw?

I haven't kept an exact count but I have at least 1000 and I noticed velocity change at about 700ish and recently another big drop so checked again. Have thought about going 1/7 but based off what I have seen plan to go 1/8..... I would recommend 1/7 only if you plan to shoot the 90's or the 95gr Sierra.
I made it a point not to play with mine too much like shooting steel and other fun stuff. I tried a bunch of powders at the beginning settled on a load and just hunted with it since. Recently when these newer bullets came out I played around some. I may have killed the first coyote with the 88's as I shot one at 541 yards back in March before they were released.
These deer were all shot one morning this past December with 22 Creedmoor and a hunting bullet I cannot discuss. All shoulder shots all but one DRT... one ran 15 yards or so. You will enjoy your 22 CM!

^ Thank you so much for the insight. I am leaning towards the 1:8tw now. 88gr is more then likely the heaviest bullet I plan to shoot.

Looks like that bullet is a hammer. If/When it comes on the market feel free to post back. Building my .22 CM for yotes, foxes, deer, hogs, etc small-medium ish game.

What altitude are you shooting in venatic? According to Berger and Hornady 4DOF, the 88s require a 7 twist to be above 1.5 SG at 1000 ft elevation, where I'm at. I want to make sure I get the most out of the bullet and not have a big loss in BC due to the bullet not being fully stabilized. Thanks

I am shooting at 500-1000 ft for the most part here in Texas. I'm probably never at the 1.5 but for sure over 1.0 which means it's stable enough to shoot great.
I can say that shooting out to 650 yards I did not notice any loss of BC.
If the loss is there it's not enough to make me fret over it.
I will say if I could get say a 1/7.75 twist I would probably do it but 1/7 is too much of a good thing for my purposed use.

Venatic,

Did you ever try 90 gr vlds, 95 gr SMKS or the 88 eldms on deer. My overall intent is yotes but it would be nice to use one bullet that could take up to deer size game to no more then 400-500 yds.

Intending on using the 88 eldms but if the 90-95 gr smks or 80-90 gr bergers have a little better lethality then I could be persuaded otherwise.

I have killed over 20 deer with the 80.5 Berger and maybe 3-4 with the 80 gr ELD-m. Killed a bunch of hogs too with the 80gr ELD so no reason the 88gr won't do just fine.
Never have been interested much in playing with 90's but I did try a few 95's on the range but they obviously weren't stable enough to shoot well in my rifle got like 3 inch groups

I ran a 1-7 on my 22-243 for a short while. 80 Amax and 90 vld did not like that. 3400 with 80s and 3200 with 90s. My bullets were coming apart shortly after they came out the barrel. Switched to 1-8 and the problem was gone. I'd say stick with the 1-8 also, you should be able to shoot almost any 22 cal bullet.

I built a 22 creedmoor last spring with a 1-8" twist barrel because it was available without a wait. I have shot 88eldm bullets exclusively and have seen impressive velocity with RL26. My barrel is a Shilen chromoly not stainless and it is only 21" long. I went with a chromoly barrel Because the steel is harder than stianless and I was betting that I could get a few more rounds out of the barrel before it went south. I have about 450tpinds through it now and I don't see Andy throat erosion yet. I have shot in one PRD match witch is basically shooting 14 stages with 10 round strings as fast as you can run the bolt. I thought that might do a number on the throat but it doesn't seem like it did. I built the gun to shoot in PRS matches and was hoping to keep the 88eldm right at 3200fps. With necked-down gunwerks brass and federal 210m primers I'm getting around 3250-3300 FPS with 43gr of RL26. My barrel started picking up speed after about 150rds and I had to drop down to 42gr to stay close to 3200 but it's is still around 3250 with 42gr. I am around 3000ft above sea level and have had no BC loss problem with the 1-8" barrel shooting out to 1200yds.

TIMELY thread as I just place my order for a custom .22 Creed. I went with a 24", 7 twist, Proof Carbon barrel. I'm following closely.

I have bought custom Redding dies from Accurate Arms, SRP 205's. Alphamunitions brass. ready to go in May when I hope rifle is done.

Ya'll listen to Venatic, I know him and he knows his CHIT !!!!

This is a bad (for me !) thread! I have two 6 Cms and a 3rd being rechambered in it. But a 22 CM? that bug is biting hard on me ! I have a 223 A.I. that shoots a 55gr Sierra very well at 3600fps; but an 80 gr. at 3400??? Dang, that's hard not want!
