I have a 300 prc built with a 26" 1-9 twist barrel. Does anybody have experience with the 214 gr hammer hunter this combo or just the 214 in general?
thanks widgeon

You might want to drop to the 199gr, the 214s have a hard time stabilizing in a 1-9 twist or at least I never could get them to.
thanks for the sharing your experience. have you had success with the 199gr?

I have been going back and forth trying to decide between the 199 and 214. I hunt in western Oregon and shots can be anywhere from 5 yards to a 1000. thats whats making me interested in the hammers.

No I haven't tried them, after the 214s keyholed with all the different powders I tried, I just went back to bergers
With your 9" twist what elevation are you at? 9" is definitely a min for this bullet. I would be happy to replace the bullets that you got with a different one that will stabilize. Does neither of us any good for you to buy bullets that you can't use.

@widgeon

I prefer to run with higher stability than the min twist recommended, so I would run with the 199g Hammer Hunter as well.

unless i draw mule deer tags for eastern Oregon almost all my hunting is under 1000 ft . I was trying to take advantage of the higher bc with the 214 . so i guess i will give the 199 a try as soon as i get the barrel broken in.

That is what I would do.

If it makes you feel better I am also going to give the 199's a try in my 30 Sherman.
Speed in my experience kills faster than anything. Since the vast majority of my shots are under 1000 yards. And I would not want to risk wounding a hunt of any caliber other than hogs I think the 199's are gonna win out but I may just do both and see what happens.

I am shooting the 199 Grain Hammers in my CA Traverse. 80 Grains of H-1000 gets me 3053 FPS and it is shooting 1/2 MOA to 600 Yards. I did try the 214 Hammer Hunters and they shot excellent as well but I haven't had time to work on the load as I developed the 199 for a trip to Africa next month. the load I tried was 76.9 Grains of H-1000 and it shot great also but was quite slow. It was a starting load. My CA has a 1-8 twist.

I've done both the 214s and 199s in my 300 win mag. Both shot well. I found I can accurately drive the 199s at 3128 fps so I went with the 199s. Killed 4 animals ranging in size from 50lb javalina to a 350lb oryx with them. Wrecked everything all animals including my Aoudad were bang flop.
