My father was Bill Miller .He was a gunsmith and hunted Long range . Kettle creek , pine creek , hyner lookout were a few of the places we used to hunt . Howard was a VERY good friend of the my family . I'm almost 60 now . Gone is my dad and also the days of long range hunting . Give em he'll boys.
No , we are from PA . He was a gunsmith and built 7mm 300 Weatherby magnums .We had a sporting goods store and his shop was in the back of it , until we moved and he had a separate shop . Lee Aunkst , Harry Keiser , Howard Wolfe , Jim Unger were also a few from our group . Shot a turkey 1 time at 1100+ yards . No , not 1st shot but still.......Welcome aboard from Wyoming. Well hell, you may want to take a season or two off now! Great job!!! I still need to get my first bull. Hopefully next year. I use a 280AI as well. Were you happy with the performance on the bull?I was truly blessed this year. I went on my first elk hunt in September and was lucky to get a bull with my bow. I came home and filled my 2 buck tags with the rifle buck being my biggest to date. It was also taken with a LPR custom 280ai that @Elk Hunter 338 built me a few years ago. My family, friends and I will be eating good this winter. A year to remember!View attachment 621090
Thank you, the bull was taken with a bow. I love the 280ai, my favorite cartridge. Good luck to you and I hope you get a bull next fall.Well hell, you may want to take a season or two off now! Now that's the ultimate trifecta.Nothing "big" yet, but plenty of good eating so far in 2024...

Plenty of meat hanging on that pole! While I cannot top most of those trophies, I can display my version of the ideal Buck pole (concept) in Michigan's UP. Traditional deer camp where I grew up hunting whitetails. Quality has suffered up there but tradition still thrives at our camp. I love my western hunts but will not be anywhere else come Nov. 15th.
None really ever detected in the Upper Peninsula. Those cases are all in the south part of Michigan. Our (UP) deer herd health is based on winter and wolves.Plenty of meat hanging on that pole!
I have read about part's of Michigan getting hit hard with EHD. Looks like your hunt area was spared.
