2024 Bull

Hello,
I drew a controlled hunt in central Idaho. Being able to chase these amazing monarchs during the rut was going to be epic and my brother and I would make memories that will stay with us our entire lives! I used my weatherby vanguard 300 weatherby shooting 168 grn Berger. I know light weight. One shot 437 yards DRT. I am so grateful that I was able to share this moment with my Brother! We love hunting elk more than anything. And we love spending our time together in the mountains! I am also grateful to all of you for helping me learn as I have continued to study and ask questions pertaining to long range. I am just really grateful for the year 2024View attachment 625691
Congrats, Awesome Bull and like you said forever memories with your Bro.

That's a beautiful bull. Congrats.

Ridge, I am very blessed! I helped him kill one if his bulls in New Mexico, 2018. We have chased these suckas every year. And God willing many more years to come.
That really is a bull of a lifetime, especially with all that character Yes, yes every year there are bulls that are shot in the 340s to 360s or some even more. But anything 310+ is a dang nice bull, IMHO.

Score is never my objective. I focus on finding and pursuing older class bulls. After all my scouting this past summer for the hunt I had some targets picked out or at least an idea where to start looking. Opening day I picked my brother up from the airport and bombed it to the mountains. We got to the glassing spot I chose and starred glassing with anticipation. Just two days before I glassed two six points. But gahl would you know it, I glassed up a group of hunters who worked there butts off and killed one of those bulls I scouted. So back to square one. Pulled out my onX app and went to work. Every drainage I went to had camps in it. To say my heart sank was an understatement. Self doubt kept creeping in. I happened to find a drainage that was difficult to get to, and it had all four ingredients I look for . Water, seclusion, feed and bedding. So we checked it out before committing, we found fresh sign, bull tracks cows and calves so we knew they were in here. The wind was out if the west snd so we slipped up the backside of the west facing ridge. Found some mahoganies and tucked in for the long haul. We sat down at Two found some cows and knowing the time of year I glassed this bull up in the timber bedded. I have video of my being a blabbering mess!! Lol but all the hard work was well worth it.

I am say the way. I was merely referencing score as indicator of what a great bull he is. The hunt your describe is epic.

I drew my OIL moose tag for 76-1 (NE of Soda Springs) had scouted out a couple of very nice bull but good never find him during my hunting time. Called a different one (smaller) into to 21 yards and took it. What a satisfying experience. My buddy drew the same tag the next year and guided him on to the bull I had been looking for the previous year. Could not have been happier for him.
