To directly address OP's query, another thing you can do is search local and online auctions for a "custom 1885". If you can find one with a lousy barrel, or one that's already customized, but in a caliber you don't want, and you can get it cheap enough, you can always just put your own barrel onto that. They're out there - I have probably a dozen of them in all sorts of calibers. In fact, my current project has been one I bought as "22 R2 Lovell", but has actually turned out to be in 222 Rimmed. So I've been collecting horribly expensive 222R brass lately. I told my wife it might be cheaper in some cases to just buy a reamer and rechamber some of these with oddball/hard-to-get calibers.
