I have had superb results on mule deer and whitetail using 165gr SST's running 2800 FPS, all shot at 200-300 yards.
165 Nosler Ballistic Tip running 2900 will do a great job for you.Sierra Gamechangers have thick jackets and I was not impressed how they would zip through without reliable expansion on deer. I prefer not to use tougher bullets on whitetails.
That's nice of your experience with the Sierra bullets, but this thread is referencing the Hornady SST's in 165 gr. .308 caliber.Sierra Gamechangers have thick jackets and I was not impressed how they would zip through without reliable expansion on deer. I have five 30-06's in my safe, so I feel qualified to make a statement to the OP's question. My comments are based on real time experience. I feel qualified in what my original post stated.
Creedmoor velocity works great with the 130 eld-m, 140 eld-m, 130 berger ar hybrid, 130 sierra tipped matchking.I'm the OP though so I can comment lol. I kinda like bullets that will rapidly expand and expend energy rapidly in the animal a la SST or Bergers. I tried the 140 grain Sierra Gamechangers in my 6.5 Creedmoor and wasn't crazy about the performance. The 147 ELD-Ms and 143 grain ELD-Xs had a more emphatic kill effect.
I picked up a couple boxes of 30 caliber 165 grain SSTs to load over some H4350 for my .30-06.
Anyone got good reviews of the SSTs for deer sized game.
You are correctI'm pretty sure they SST comes via Hornady and the Core-lokt comes via Remington. something may be going on behind the scenes that I'm not aware of like they share a bullet manufacturer, but I'm pretty sure that its Hornady and Remington.
