12GA Rounds for Grizz?

It'll be another 30 pages by the time everyone gets answering it again, that's how varied the opinions are. I know reading hurts not been a fan of it since graduate school either, but it was covered at least three times in the last 30 pages the full cycle anyway.
What he said. You're going to get all kinds of answers. Everyone has a different opinion. Everyone had a different reason for their opinions. Good luck😂😂

There is a ton load of info on this thread, thanks for all of it.

I'm too lazy to go thru all of this to sort thru it so I'll ask...on the real and not looking for why they shouldn't be used etc all I wish to hear is from those that believe in using shotguns for bear defense what slugs and or buck shot would you prefer if you could find it...?

Part of Montana that I live in has more than a few G bears that have a tendency to want to join us while we're fishing and I've thought about getting a shotgun to tote along while in certain areas. Side note, most of the time I carry my G20 in a chest holster.

I'll summarize what I have found from reading threads like this in many forums. Skip the buckshot and use slugs. Of the slugs, the most commonly mentioned are the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum or Classic Magnum. Occasionally someone mentions the law enforcement Special Forces slug from Brenneke as well. Another possibility is the DDuplek's Steelhead slugs.

An armorer for an Alaskan Fish and Game preferred the Brenneke Classic Magnum, and that is what his agency used at the time. He had an incident where a 3" shell got hung up during ejection and since then relied on the 2.75" shells. He also reported having several DLP kills using the Classic Magnum shells. If you want to read about his experiences on the Outdoors Directory forums over the years (username: stevelyn), here is a search.

Finally, many who live in bear country prefer a rifle over a shotgun, but shotguns have been used effectively to kill bears, even big brown bears.

It's like 1 in 2,700,000 chance a grizzly is gonna try ya so, use whatever's on sale for slugs, at the walmarts, Winchester Super-X, in a 3inch Magnum, will make a good round.

Totally get that being as I live in the country with the G bears.

I've spendt my last 44 years around bruins a lot! I've stopped two black bear charges (one at 9' the other @ 15' one via my 22/250 the other via a 25/06) so I'm no stranger to bears.

I see more bruins in a year than most will see in several lifetimes:)

But, I do feel ya on the chances of being bothered. Though south of me we normally have a half a dozen G bear assaults a year...

I notice he didn't use buckshot! 😉 memtb

My nephew worked for Alaska F&G and was the guy called to deal with bear problems. He used
a 12 gage with buckshot then a slug. This was for close range and better than rifle. If it was 50 yards
or more a rifle, like 45/70. A bear charge is fast and on time to aim, point and pull trigger. Buckshot
is meant to turn the bear.

A legend is just folklore, that people eventually believe took place. The grizzly bear that a 10mm Glock couldn't stop, that's Awesome!

All the bear stories up here with pics end up growing wings and becoming essentially what they are now. In a couple weeks bear season starts, I'm sending out a pink chipmunk for the guys to pose with. That way we can start that rumor rolling about the magical chipmunk 22lr. It will be gospel truth by 2025 and folks all over the midwest can argue its merit while every jr woodchuck from our much degraded army will be packing pink stocked chipmunks because of said legend...

That should work, plus girls that have the pink chipmunk model would have bragging rights on it's stopping capabilities.
