123 eld-m on deer, anyone use them?

Should have no problem with 123ELDs at that range. On the Grendel forum killed a WT buck at 502yds with the 123SST. I know it's not ELD but I would think at closer ranges the ELD will work.

I Have a 16.5" Heavy barrel 6.5x47L with a can.
I am shooting A 123 eldm for hunting.
2795 fps with 38.3 gr varget with cci 450 primers,
per my labradar. (This is my rifle so proceed carefully)
Avgs. less than .4 moa.

Deer and hogs are DRT.
Of course I break their spines. :)

I run the 120 Sierra sp at 3000fps out of my 6.5x55 Swede and have taken deer cleanly out to 510 yds, my longest shot was this year on a buck at 510, hit him between the last 2 ribs quartering away and took out the goodies, and exited thru the right front leg blowing it off. I have taken about 30 deer with this combo, most 400 yds in, and it shoots a tiny group at 100 yds. I have mine zeroed at 300, cause that is the limit on most of the places I hunt here in KY, with the exception of 2 large hay fields which reach out to just a little over 500yds. You might want to give this bullet a try, it expands well at all velocity's, and is much less expensive.

I bet it would work just fine. I have shot 230lb mulie with the 140eldm in the 6.5cm. Watched my brother in law roll over a couple mulies and whitetail with them. One was about 260lbs, bullet didn't exit but was under the skin on the opposite side and it's vitals were jello. I have shot some whitetail with 75gr bthp with a 223 as well only one ran and went 15yds.

It a comes Down to a ethical kill . Not the kill you intend on but the one you don't , like if the animal takes a step at shot break or the bullet glances of a stick half way between you and your target that you didn't see and hits the deer 6-8" OR MORE over from your point of aim . If you end up hitting the deer in the shoulder or hip bone unintentionally, you need to have a primium bonded or solid hunting bullet that will hold up , not a lite target bullet with a very thin jacket . ELD-m is a target bullet , ELD-X is for hunting although they don't make a hunting x that lite. There are other premium bonded or solid Bullets in that weight range that are good hunting Bullets , the lighter bullet for hunting you use , the better it needs to be !! I'm guessing your not looking for a high BC bullet or you would be in the heavier bullet range. I had a 10 year disagreement with a very close friend about nosler balistic tip Bullets . They shoot VERY well and that's really attractive but then there is the moral side but they are JUNK for hunting . He shoots factory Ammo w/Nosler balistic tips and I put him on his biggest mule deer at 75 yards with a rem 7mm , he got buck feaver , made a HORRIBLE shot and hit the deer in the right hip , the deer flopped around for 1 min before we had a angle on a CLEAN ethical shot that I made to dispatch the animal and end its suffering !! It looked like u put a M -80 under its skin and blew out meat the size of your fist onlybout 4 " deep , didn't even break the bone ! I made it very abrupt and told him THAT's why you shoot a primium Bullet or solids ! He has ever since . The primium hunting bullet in a tragic shot would have went all the way threw cousing fatal damage although not ideal of course . We were lucky we were able to get a follow up shot and the deer didn't run off and take days to die if it was not trackable ( It can and does happen ) I'm not trying to tell anyone what is rite or wrong , I'm just telling you becouse it was a terrible thing and absolutely unintended and I'd like to minimize that situation all I can by spreading the word . It's troubling how much is said on this site alone about guys using target Bullets for hunting , even worse , light target Bullets on bigger game like elk .....☹️

Well ethically speaking your BIL should have passed on the shot when buck fever hit. Just saying.

With a 16 "grendel I have killed 4 deer in SC with the 123 eldm. All ran about 40 yards. Hit behind the shoulder in the lungs. Only one exited. Not a good blood trail becsbec just a small entry wound. SST and Fusion same reaction from deer but both exiting. I'm still playing around with the set up for my daughter because it's light and doesn't kick. I'm thinking the ABLR is probably the best but haven't taken an animal with it yet. Not sure if I can launch it fast enough.

Perfect broadside shot standing still at 75 yards , don't get any better then that ,more of a brain fart then buck feaver, he yanked the trigger ........just sayin ....

Last couple years used 123sst in 18" grendel mini howa for my daughter, she was a little recoil sensitive. Shot muley deer and antelope to 200. No problems. Using ar comp created 2445 chrono very low deviation. That being said a bonded or partition would be recomended beyond that for larger animals.

I'm running a 123 SST and a 130 Berger both on top of 38.3 grains of RL-15. Good whitetail medicine out to 400 for me.
