Thought I would share my 07 elk. Killed him with a Bowtech Commander using 100 grain Montecs. Hit the neck and cut the artery and sliced the spinal cord. He just fell and rolled over the mountain.

Funny how non-hunters often think that you have to shoot deer with several arrows (pin cushion) to effect a kill.
Arrows are extremely effective in the right hands. You have obviously got it together.

I know there's a bunch of folks with a bunch of ideas about the right ways and wrong ways to kill animals. I want to ask a question about your shot and I want to ask those folks who're going to be tempted to tell us how wrong things are to keep those opinions to yourselves.
I've always been real careful with my shot selection and placement while archery hunting. I once hit an elk in the shoulder. That elk lived to become food for coyotes or bears fattening up for winter. He didn't come home with me like I'd planned. So, I pass a lot of head on and quartering to shots. I've got several videos where the shooters don't follow the "rules". These folks take these shots that aren't commonly accepted. They place their arrows in unconventional spots, and place them well. The results are as hoped for.
It sounds like you shot this fellow in the neck, facing you, intentionally. If so, what are your experiences / thoughts on these types of shots? I'm interested in expanding my knowledge base and increasing my opportunities.

I have taken 2 bulls and about half dozen bucks with neck shots and have put them all down. This bull in his tracks and the other went 20 yards. There is 2 huge arteries and the spinal cord in the neck and it hard not to hit one of them. You can tell as soon as you hit one of them as you will see blood gushing or hit the bone and he will go down. He was slighly quartering away looking back in my direction standing behind a few trees. If not just take a seat for a couple of hours and go slow.
I dont really care what anyone else thinks as long as I feel confident I will do it. It is something a person will have todecide on for themselves. I have lost a couple of animals with a gun and only one with a bow, it happens.
If someone wants to call me unethical its fine. I shoot almost everyday and know what I am capable of.
If the ethical police want to pick on someone I would suggest hitting the shops both gun and bow looking for the people that want a weapon so they can going the next day.

Aldo Leopold is one of my favorites.
The two stories I like the best is the one about the buffalo grass along the side of the road and the other is the one about the sand bar and the weeds growing up in the spring.
