“Stop the Hammering!”

#6 Nosler does show 130gn AB @ 53.5gn H4831SC (3025fps) as max but #8 shows that charge for 123/125gn bullet weights. It drops the charge to 51.5gn of H4831SC as MAX for the 129/130gn AB and ABLR. Velocity is 2627fps for 26" barrel.
I have shot the 6.5-284 Norma for quiet a few years now and the only thing I've battled recently is the carbon ring. Everything was fine till I tried the "not clean till accuracy drops off" regiment. That works fine for some cartridges (i.e., 6mmBR, .300WinMag) but not for me w/the 6.5-284. It is a top performing 6.5 and is a tad overbore. If I keep mine clean, I have no issues.
I run Retumbo right now. I have tried RL26 and it is ffaaaasssssttttttt! I took it to pressure with the 147gn and it was over 3100fps (Lothar Walther 28") but that beats me, the barrel and the brass up.
AA 3100 was a very accurate powder but is no longer produced, bummer.
Sounds like you might wanna back your charge of H4831SC down a couple grains and rework it, better yet try some Retumbo. Good luck brother.

WOW! Thanks for the reference update disparity. I agree that OP needs to take it down to safe levels. What he has on his avatar might be the magic combination for H4831SC.

Yes. I guess the pedigree of this chamber is weird. I was all excited to shoot 143 ELD-X's out of mine when I got it but then I tried to seat them like a VLD bullet and was bummed out that I could not. They were so far in the case it was ridiculous. The Accubond has a different ogive profile and allowed me to seat out alot further so it's my go-to bullet. Shoots great, so issue resolved but If I ever have another one built, I'll make sure I know what i'm getting!
It definitely sounds like a Winchester throat if the bullet is seated that deep also try reloader 23 that is my new go to powder It My sweet spot seems to be from 2950 to 29 80 ft./s

Yeah, I was shocked to see the 51.5 Max charge. I had too, been operating off the older Nosler data. It's looking like a powder charge is in order if I want more speed. It was shooting 2,835 with a 51.4 grain charge and 2,940 with the 52.3 grain charge. Everything.020 off the lands. They both shot well but I wanted a little more steam behind it because I have just been accepted at a range in WV (was on the waiting list) and I can finally shoot out past 300 yards in a controlled environment!! Anyway, glad I keep and file my old targets so I got a fall back position. Thank you all for your commentary!

Yeah, thanks Bill. That's great shooting. I have some powder shopping to do!
I have only tried 4831 shortcut which is very accurate but a little slow H 1000 and retumbo but when I tried 23 that's what I'm sticking with also if you ever want to re chamber your rifle I will send you my reamer it's nothing special you can get it right from Pacific tool and gauge

Lawrence O'Donnell would not have been happy if he were at my house tonight. I just got done pulling 27 6.5-284 rounds with the kinetic hammer. Seems I had them loaded a bit hot. Had a moderately stiff bolt lift and looks like some pancakes and ejector marks. This was a 53.5 grain charge of H4831sc under a 130 Accubond. Does that seem hot to you guys in a 6.5 Norma? I was getting 3,082 FPS out of it (SD 10; ES 31). See pic of the cases. I'm kind of bummed out about it cause it was looking very promising. Any suggestions on a charge I might back off to?View attachment 193648
Never ran 130s. Only 140 class bullets. H4831sc/51.5 grains gets me around 2975. Not hot at all. I've run them up to 3150 and was getting a little hot. Definitely doesn't sound like your load is too hot other than looking at the brass.

Maybe it's the short throated chamber in mine that's causing the pressure excursion?

H4350 shot the group in my avatar with Sierra 142's. But it too was a stout load almost on par with what your brass looks like, but not quite as pronounced. (5 shots, .968" at 600 yards.)
