28 nosler redding neck die shaving brass.

Neck die is shaving my case necks. I cleaned the die and brass, chamfered the necks and generously lubed them. This is not a bushing style die. I tried ADG brass as well as the Hornady. Did it to both. What am I doing wrong?

My FL die doesn't do this.

I don't see any chamfer on that neck.

That's because it cut it off. I don't chamfer as aggressively as what you posted.

Contact Redding. Something seems wrong about the die.

I just debur the outside and chamfer the inside. But I don't use neck dies.

I've always figured that an aggressive chamfer like this would hinder necks sealing. I usually just de-burr for the most part.

I emailed redding. This die cycles harder than my FL die. I'm almost wondering if the expander ball is the wrong one... I'm heading to go measure it now.

Might be helpful to make a pass on one without the expander. Just for the info and to help diagnose.

.270" i.d. .306" o.d. without expander.

Expander measured. 283".

I think it's just too sharp of an edge machined inside of the die. Here is a picture of my de-burr and chamfering before running it through the die.

I have 11 other calibers worth of dies, reloaded thousands of rounds, and have never had this particular issue.
