Frustrated finding primers

3 years ago I opened a free account at shootingbot.com. Soon after they announced a linkup with the Telegram phone message app which searches the internet for trusted vendors (not just Midway) which is the fastest way to receive in-stock notifications. Way faster than email and a bit quicker than plain text messages. I too used to sign up for notifications at Midway and in every case I had already bought and received what I needed from another vendor when Midway sent me notifications. OBTW at a better price too.
Just another tool in the toolbox, give it a try.
I would also suggest shootingbot.
Even with that, you need to act quickly, but if you do, you can stock up in short order.
I still get notifications for large magnum primers a few times a week, so they are out there.
Maybe when you get a notification, text a buddy who is not as restricted as you and he can order them for you.

Sheesh that's steep
I felt the same way until I calculated that when shooting 60 rounds a week on the average it will cost me about another $4.00 every Saturday. In the scheme of my shooting it's a rounding error. So I bought a couple thousand at that price, load as much as I want, and now I'm more selective on pricing.

Yea, I think I'm going to have to set up my online account with my cell phone. Another hurdle I got to get over at work is that they censor what sort of websites we may visit. Even if it is on our personal cell phone. I'm sure that you can guess that we can not visit anything related to firearms. There is a work-a-around though by logging off of the company's wi-fi and connecting via cellular service which in my area is slow. I usually only have one bar at work.
Take a road trip to Shydas outdoors in Lebanon PA.

I found some at our local Pawn shop in town, CCI LRM for 132.00 a brick, they also had some Federal Champion LRM, I did not catch the price, my eyes blurred when I saw the price on the CCI's.. This is a longshot, but I am hoping, with a new administration coming into office, we will begin to see primers and powder coming back in stock at the local stores and online retailers. If the war in Ukraine would come to a halt, I could see that taking place.

I'm thinking like you are. I don't have to spend money on stuff right now. I can wait.

I was just looking at some stickers I had on a brick of CCI primers from 2009. $26.95

I want to be optimistic, but those days are long gone. If you are holding off waiting for prices to drop, good luck with that. As noted in #30, I started this thread 4 years ago, https://www.longrangehunting.com/th...the-local-gun-store-empty-handed-rule.255740/, as an experiment because people are complaining they cannot find reloading components. I purchased powders at $28 two years ago; that is now $50+ if they are available, and they go quickly off the shelves. In the process, I also started buying primers and powders that I do not primarily use, and I used them as bargaining chips. The bottom line is you must pay if you want to play. Good luck!

Well, I am hoping, if the shelves stay continually stocked and not a short run once a year. I would expect at least the price would ease up some, the old adage of supply and demand. The price runs happen every time we have a Demoncrat administration running hard at promoting disarmament. Everyone goes into panic buying and we end up with these 4 years of limited stock, or 8 years of it during Obama.

I would agree, I don't believe prices will ever go down. Wages are not going down anytime soon and that's some of the biggest part of a business expense.

I want to elaborate on the thread that I started. If you read through, you will see that none of the purchases are panic buys but rather relatively incremental. Also, the impact on incremental purchases can be substantial. The experiment was to prove to people who complain about the shortage, especially those who do not know their efforts to acquire the components and their complaints about higher prices.

For instance, I was Scheels a couple of years ago perusing the reloading section when two oldtimers complained that a pound of powder was $1 more than where they came from, but they had just traveled 180 minutes round trip. On another occasion, a guy picked up a pound of powder and commented he had been waiting for it for a long time. So, I asked if he was sure he only needed a pound. He ended up with two pounds instead.

There is a big difference between continually stocking items and selling them off the shelves. Every day, the profit margin is not realized when an item does not move off the shelves (activity-based costing). Yes, I, too, would like to see a good stockpile of supplies, but I want them to sell.

The laws of supply and demand are an economic model. They can be influenced by real-world events, such as conflicts in Ukraine and other parts of the world. Sometimes, it is hard to distinguish between the two, but the panic buys during the Obama years were political. On a positive note, Obama was the best salesperson on 2A products, and gun sales skyrocketed. 🤣

Sad but true. I think the incoming administration will improve the current situation, but not without a challenge. I am blessed to be working on my second retirement (hopefully in two years), but others are not too lucky. I have friends who retired five years ago and are coming out of retirement. I am unsure what preparations they made for their retirement planning, but my wife and I have been working on our retirement plans since 1982 and our estate planning 5+ years ago.

None of us has a crystal ball and can predict the future but, I believe that our shelves will eventually be well stocked again with supplies like we are used to. At that time, I do believe that prices will stabilize and will reflect a balance between supply and demand. I doubt we will see 2009 prices again but I also doubt that they will reflect our current prices either.

A nod to White River Energetics. I loaded for 4 rifles with the LR version with great results. they lit Superform, TAC, RL26 and H4350 (just the 4 powders I tried) very well producing very consistent, low SDs. These were proven loads with WRE replacing F210M and WLR primers. There was not a great deal of difference with the switch. Through a little better than half the first brick and found they are worth picking up another 5K. For $80 per K it's hard not to - Sadly it would appear I have been conditioned to be HAPPY with 8 cent primers.

You cannot, but you can prepare for it to help alleviate the burden. Your thread is titled "Frustrated finding primers," what you do with your frustration is entirely up to you.

I agree, and $80-$100 is the current price in my LGS, plus an additional $30 for HAZMAT and shipping for online purchases.
