Here in WV you can only use 22cal cartridges for night hunting and I'm looking at having a savage 110 308win rebarreled to something for coyotes. I currently run a Ruger American Predator 22-250 in a Magpul Hunter fed with Hornady Superformance 50 grain VMax. In this rifle it's running 4009 fps, groups 1/2 moa, and flat hammers coyotes. But the action leaves something to be desired. It's rough, noisy, and just all around clunky. Still yet it's killed SOOOOO many coyotes.

I have in my safe a Savage FCP-SR 308 that shoots fantastic but I never use it so I'm goi g to build it into a better coyote rifle. The action is butter smooth, it has the precision accutrigger set at 1#, and a factory 10 round mag.

So I want to hear from you guys what's the best 22cal center fire for coyotes?

I am considering just having it rebarreled to a 22-250 since I have such great luck with it and killing coyotes. Most shots here are less than 250 yards. With 90% being less than 150.

So what your fellas opinions?

I was going to build a 22arc this winter but ammo is hard to find here. I ended up doing a 243 Ruger american gen ii. My old rifle is a 223 Ruger american gen 1. I think the action on the Gen ii is better. If I was you I would stick with a 22 250.

Just me, but since it is already a 308 bolt face, I would just go with a 22-250. If you plan to add a few longer shots in the future, try a faster twist like 1/9", for it will handle up to the 75's. A 22-250 is really hard to beat for occasional shots on coyote size and other varmints. Of course, there is always the 22CM.

for coyotes if you just want a new cartridge pick one. Sounds like you are already in the perfect spot and a great load with 22-250 or as said 22-250AI. I have a factory savage barrel in 22-250 that I keep wanting to punch out to AI but It has shot quite a few 1/4" groups as is so I hate to touch it. Sometimes staying with the same old thing isnt a bad idea.

On another note I was just talking with a guy yesterday that swore up and down the new Ruger Gen 2 has taken care of the glitchy loading of the Gen 1. He did also swear that the 22-250 cant be beat for coyotes. LOL smart man.

for the guy shooting factory ammo the 22cm or 22-250, for the reloader that opens up a whole new batch of cartridges better suited for your 250yds and under that your shooting.
22ARC
22GT
22BR, 22Dasher
any one of which will be murder on coyotes.

Just ordered a Wilson blank to build a 22-250 for a friend. I shot one until I shot it out. I can't even fathom the amount of critters that died from that rifle. After the 250, I moved on to 243AI. Now that I'm building this 22-250, I'm contemplating a swift for myself. There's just something about a smoking fast 22.

Build a 22-243AI - you'll thank me later.

I think I'm just going to have Douglas barrels put a 20" 1:10 22-250 on it.

I do reload but I reload for so many rifles already I'm just not looking to reload for more unless I have to. Primers and powder are still pretty hard to get.
