What’s your spookiest hunting experience?

We had a peacock farm over the ridge from us growing up. I HATED those things. So dang loud.
I'm with you. A plantation I stay at a lot has a bunch of them. The house I stay in is right by their pen. They wake me up all the time in the middle of the night. They are good at letting you know if something or someone is around. They are like Guineas in that respect.

It was first light and I was upland bird hunting for Pheasant with my dog. Started working a bend in creek that had some medium sized willows mixed with tall grass and tule. Suddenly my pointer stops hunting and is just staring at me looking befuddled so I walk up to see if there is a porcupine or something in the area. I took a few steps past my dog into a willow patch and willows start snapping and ground was trembling when something the size of a horse brushed the muzzle of my shotgun. After some shock and befuddlement myself I realized we'd jumped three mature bull elk off their beds and I was in the escape route. The group included a huge 6X6 and two smaller 5X5's. I was grateful to make it back to my truck in one piece that day and now when my dog gets that look I proceed with more caution.

Dog was probably telling himself, " I tried to tell him, but he went right on and almost got himself trampled! Humans can be so stupid sometimes…..but we love 'em despite themselves!"
