Viht. N570

Anyone had any issues with Viht. N570 losing velocities over extended period of time?
There's only one way to find out: run your load through a Chrono and compare it to when you first had it. Not N570, but I have some 5-plus-year-old open powders without noticeable loss in velocity.

ADDED: I ran into this old thread from another forum - https://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/barrel-slowing-down.3943639/page-2. The OP used a different powder, but it might help you troubleshoot. The OP is also an LRH member - @Rhovee. Good luck!

I have heard it may, however I do not know for sure. Was using it in a 300 RUM and had a load at 2830 FPS. 700 rounds on the barrel and it was throwing shots so figured the barrel was done. Ran the load over a chrono to be certain and it had dropped 100 FPS.

How many rounds on your barrel/what cartridge?

People like 8 pounders for the quantity (me included) but prefer 1 pounders so only one is open at a time.

I've seen powders drop velocity when left open and dry out. Like letting it in a dispenser for long periods. There has been discussions on this.

It is a very erosive powder from everything I've heard. The man that built my 28 Nosler told me I'd have to keep an eye on the throat of my barrel and lengthen seating on my bullet to compensate over time. I don't shoot it much for that reason and use other cartridges and rifles for practice only shooting the 28 a few times a year saving it for hunting.
