Want To Buy Scope for Ruger American

It sounds like you are dead set on SFP, but just would like to know why? I myself have gone completely FFP and find it so much easier in the field. When I'm given a whatever wind call, there is no thinking involved, just move over to the correct mark and let her fly. No need to worry about what power setting your on or trying to dial in the wind. Much easier for younger shooters also to understand IMO. I've never had a problem with the reticle being "to big" except for a Leupold MK5HD (that thing was obnoxious) and I regularly shoot out to a mile plus. Not trying to pick a fight, just curious?
For me I've always preferred SFP mainly for the unchanging reticle size and I dont shoot any competition, only hunting. I like a simple reticle that's the same size regardless of zoom and easy to see. The Christmas tree style reticle drive me crazy, maybe just my OCD! I also dial for all my long range shots and will be at max zoom anyway. I practice a lot with my custom long range setups, Alamo Precision Rifles, NXS 5.5-22 scopes, and Vortex Fury 5000 with applied ballistics, so I am comfortable with them. I also hunt from close up in East Texas to long range in Wyoming and Colorado. With SFP I get the same reticle size at 100 yards as I do at 800 yards. Has just always been my preference for how I hunt and what is most comfortable for me. With dialing as opposed to hold over, it also allows me to stay centered in the reticle for better follow up shots if needed and if i dont have a spotter with me. I'm not against FFP just never went down that rabbit hole.

Having taught a bunch of kids how to run LR glass…. MIL is a much easier system for them to grasp (.1 vs .25) and FFP keeps everything the same all the time.

Kids (and new shooting adults) LOVE the Athlon Helos 2-12, in the MIL version with the dot-of-death. You can get them new right now for under your stated budget.

Putting together a rifle for a kid is a great time to rethink your own preferences. Just because grandma cut the end off the pot roast, doesn't mean you need to do it too… she only did it because she didn't have a big enough pot.

Thanks for the reply, always interested to see others view points. I have a friend I shoot with that I can't get him to switch either😃 As everyone always says, Do what works for you. Good luck with the scope
