If you decide the answer for you is the RUM, I got one for ya!
If your going to buy not build prc, way more options in both gun and ammo choice. I love my rum, and being set up for the rum already, I would pick it over the prc. But if I had to start from scratch today I would go prc. Just my 2 cents
It depends on what you define as "better." I have one of both. The 300 PRC wins for being able to find factory ammo, if that is what you want. The 300 RUM wins for raw energy. Both are very capable rounds for long range big game.

If the RUM is setup properly on the chamber design (custom reamer), then RUM. If doing SAAMI on both, with factory ammo, then PRC.
I've got the RUM. Really nice cartridge. Mine does 3150 with 210's & 215's. Accurately too. Kills deer like the hammer of Thor.

Stay with the PRC, the RUM is an awesome round just not widely chambered anymore.

If it were my choice, I would not hesitate going to the RUM.
Better case design, throated correctly, the RUM just outshines the PRC in every way.
There's plenty of factory options, if that's your route, or you can reload anything you like.
What rifles have you looked at?

Have had both, now only PRC. RUM takes at least 10% more powder to get a pretty trivial performance improvement. Both of these cartridges carry enough energy farther than I intend to try and kill something. PRC has been very forgiving to load for, unlike my experience with RUM.
A ridgeline right now
Put a good muzzle brake on it.
My choice between the two is RUM .
I have 5 of them. One is a wildcat a necked down 7 Rum to a 270.
MORE RUM.

Some say the RUM gives trivial performance gain. Not sure where they get their data/info from but my 300 RUM & my brother's 300 RUM trounce a 300 PRC.
NO WAY is a 300 PRC gonna push 210, 215, 220, & 225 grain bullets 3,100-3,175 fps which we do with our RUMS.

PRC is nothing other than a glorified 300WM running 3.6" OAL.I really like my RUM…. What does the PRC offer that I can't have fixed?

I have a 300 rum and I just worked up loads for 2 new 300 prcs for 2 other guys. Both great cartridges I did my rum to shoot 245s and I loaded 215s in prcs. Both .250 MOA rum shooting 245s same speed as 215s in prc all are lower nodes. Can't go wrong eaither way and don't discount 300 wm
