270 Win Found My Recipe

Shot my 270 Remington 700 ADL with 24 inch barrel at the range today and found my recipe. I am going to run 20 and make sure it's repeatable and make scope adjustments.

130 gr Sierra SBT Game changer
55 gr IMR4350 (max load)
Federal 210 primer
Remington brass

That's a three shot group at 100 yards! The others grains below and above where nowhere as tight.
I shoot the same load with a 129LRX & Win brass at 3150fps, clover leaf groups from my Kimber Hunter. That gun is a workhorse for me. Moose, elk, sheep, deer, bear have all fallen to that rig.

Well done.

Thanks for posting. Always looking for another receipe to try.

Curious - what else did you try that led you to this result? Were most of the earlier attempts MOA or better?

PSA : buy 10 boxes (200 rounds) of Sig's 140gr Sierra Tipped Gameking ammo for $15/box:

Received my case ... while the front of the boxes says "270 Win 140 Gr Controlled Expansion Tipped", the open ends of the box clearly says "Sierra Tipped Gameking".

How many grains up or down were the other loads and how did they shoot? Reason I'm asking is Imr4350 is a great powder but velocities will change with temperature. I would shoot that good load in different conditions make sure it doesn't fall apart.

My buddy used the factory Sierra 30-06 ammo loaded with 165 Game Changers. Super accurate in his Sako S20.

He shot a young deer in the shoulder at just over 100 yards. Bullet blew up like a grenade and didn't get past the shoulder into the chest cavity. Made a huge mess and deer was still alive when he walked up to it.

Not sure what others have experienced. I'm guessing it would have worked great if he had shot through the ribs and not hit a big bone. Was very surprised that a 165 grain hunting bullet would perform like that.

My buddy now uses the Barnes factory ammo to hunt with. Sierra ammo only for the range

I also have shot that load or very similar loads for several .270 Winchesters for the last 40 years. Accuracy load in two of my 270's 55.5 grs. of IMR 4350 (maximum load, Lyman 45 th edition) behind a Speer 130 gr STBT, Winchester brass and WLR primers. I have shot several 5 shot groups over the years that were under a inch c/c with hunting rifles and hunting style scopes. One of my sons accuracy load in a Weatherby Vanguard II is 55 gr of IMR 4350 behind the Speer 130 gr STBT, Remington brass, WLR primers, he also shoots groups as previously mentioned. I have also loaded both of these loads behind Sierra 130 gr bullets with the same accuracy.

I think the "GameChanger" name is for the new Tipped Game King (140 grain and 175 grain).
The 130 SBT is actually called the "GameKing".
The 270 Winchester is very special!

The 140 grain Hornady don't group nearly as good as the Sierra. I tried the Interbond and SST and don't get anywhere near the accuracy the Sierra has given me. I am sure this will be a great deer round.
130 Hornady interlock, or sierra pro hunter\ game kings rule.
I took s .270 to Wyoming and Colorado in 1981 for a month of hunting. Killed a antelope and mule deer, didn't get an elk on that hunt but got one the next year, 150 grain Speer Grand Slam. Using Remington 700. Hunted with that rifle for the next two decades. Nephew had it at one point. No idea where it is now.

That's strange. Most reports that I have read say the gamechanger bullets are a bit too tough and punch trough.

I got my first centerfire rifle, a pre-war M70 in .30-06, for Christmas in 1958. I'm 82 yrs old, so I've managed to accumulate 81 sets of dies from RCBS, Redding and Forster. By the way another good load for your .270 Win is 55 grs of H4831SC behind a 130 gr. Sierra FBSP, with a COAL of 3.33" and sparked with a Fed 210M primer. This load, while not quite as fast as your 4350 load shoots 1/2" groups with all four of my 06's. I also use two presses; an ancient Rockchucker made when Fred Huntington was in charge, and an RCBS 4x4. I tried to send some pictures but my computer, who believes it is smarter than me, refused to send them. Sorry.
