I'm looking for a gunsmith who can properly attach a banded (likely NECG) front sight on a .458 win mag that's had the barrel cut to 20". Close is better but anywhere that does good work. I'm in NE Indiana. I can have the barrel removed and just send it for the sight install with the barrel marked at top dead center.

Not yet? My rifle is at my riflesmith to get the barrel cut. He does great work but doesn't install that kind of front sight. I was planning on having him just reinstall the original sight ramp but I really prefer the banded style.

Understood. I measured at the 20" where it will be cut but can't find where I wrote that down.. And it's at the Rifle smiths so I Cant check to see the measurement. don't even know if I will be able to find one large enough in diameter.

Ive read a number of chapters/articles where they state that you take some measurements in the vicinity you want the sight, buy the band, slide it up tight, mark it and cut the barrel to that length. Then reinstall the sight n sweat it on. Or something along those lines.
It seems like any decent smith could do it?

I have done my own barrel band swivels with 120 epoxy (what they use to attach nose cones to rockets!) Thought I would ask about a smith though since bluing will be necessary also. First obstacle is if there is a band to be had that is large enough or with the thickness to make it work.

They could also attach a barrel band for your sling and an island rear sight ! All machined to match the taper of your barrel , then have the entire barrel and all the new hardware blued at the same time ! It will look perfect !
