In the past, I have seen discussions about shooters having issues working up a load for a 270 wsm. I have owned a model 16 Savage in 270 WSM for about 5 years, and have had that same trouble working up a load. Don't get me wrong, in those 5 years, I've shot seven deer with that rifle, albeit most of them under 100 yd.
Well, I finally found the recipe. After trying H4831 and H4350, I bought 2 pounds of IMR 4350. I found a node at 58.5 grains with a velocity of 3000 fps. Sub .5 MOA. I may even take it out to Utah next year.

Also, as a follow-up, does anyone know where I might pick up a five cartridge aftermarket magazine to fit my Savage model 16.

I had a hard time finding a load too. I wasnt happy with my XPR the first year but I think a lot of my issue was I was set on one bullet (130 Etip, Win brass) the gun totally didnt seem to like. But I had bought bought a few hundred of em and was determined to find somethin that worked. Tried Magpro, Magnum, imr7977, H1000...So that was a waste of time n money.

After a bit I got frustrated trying to reach good speeds with accuracy and threw a load ladder with 110TTSX n H4350 and bam! lil groups with good speeds. Works equally with 110TSX. 3500ish with 22", Norma brass

Since then Ive worked up other good loads with 125 C. EDGE maximus and finally found a 130 Etip load both with A4350, Win brass. 3200ish with both, 22", dont have my notes handy.

What i learned with my gun was to not expect huge velocity gains over the 270win and to go with quicker powders if the magnum powders arent doing it.

OP Congratulations on finding a great load for your rifle!
I loaded 270WSM for a savage 16 first, it took a little work to tune but ended up about 3/4 MOA.
I recently loaded for a Browning X-bolt 270 WSM. It was not picky at all according to my ladder test, and the first loading for groups produced this with 59.5 gr IMR 4831 under a145 ELD-X at book length and Winchester brass.
I am yet to see an X bolt not shoot well!
