Rich has pointed that out, "containing the flame" I think was his description.
Yes, keeps the flame in the case with a delay before it migrates into the throat, allows a more complete burn also.
My first 30 cal 416 Rigby Improved had a 30° shoulder, didn't do anything to help throat erosion, then 35° which helped, but 40° seems to be best, in 338/375/416 45° rules the roost.
Longer necks help also, which is why I am intrigued with the 6.5 Mega case. Rich must have them made for him.

Well yes, I run .005" per inch on my 416 Rigby Improved cases and, I just change shoulder angle depending on calibre.
35°, 40° & 45°. Help with throat erosion reduction.

Everyone wanted a WSM case with a longer neck forever and a day and Rich has provided. One only needs to decide which caliber to build. Such a conundrum.
