I want to build a 300 RUM, what action would be best, I am think Rem Action. I'm also considering a heavy barrel. Any feedback is welcome

DO IT!!!

Are you looking to handload or are you stictly going to shoot factory ammo?

If money is no option, there are good ones out there. Just make sure you get one that is set up to load long and can accomodate the components you want on the rifle (BDL, DBM, etc).

The Rem factory action is not cut to load long to take advantage of the case capacity. If you want to do that, you can either single feed (not optimal for a hunting rig) or you can have the action modified by cutting the mag well to fit an extended mag box, shorten the bolt stop, and potentially open up the ejection port. I did this on mine and now I can load 3.85" vice the 3.6" factory offerings.

RUM is fun...

Where in VA are you? I am in Fxburg.

If I was going to build a 300 rum, then I would use an impact action. They are a Remington 700 clone action. That action has massive support and lots of gunsmiths have already have their specs. You will be able to call up the smith and have them send you a barrel. Spin it on yourself and go shoot!

Mines built on a Stiller action with a carbon fiber barrel. I chose to stick with the shorter magazine as I knew I'd be shooting lighter grain higher velocity bullets. In my case, 203 grn Hammer HHT's. I have a 338 Edge that I shoot the big stuff out of. There's lots of possibilities for the RUM.

If you call defiance they can make any action load a 4" round. Moa rifles was one of the few that made an action that would be able to use a 4" 300 RUM, now that Defiance and MOA rifles are both owned by Bob Beck. Also make sure to get a bottom metal that will work for that long on a round. I have one of Moa rifle in a 300 RUM and it's an awesome caliber with a 230 Berger.
Good luck with your build,
Jason

A RUM built with a 9 twist along with an action and mag box capable of a 4 inch round is the way to get max performance out of this round. I load mine with a COAL of 3.99 and seat 245 Bergers about .020 off the lands on top of N570. with a 25 inch barrel it gives almost 3000 fps (2996). Great perfomance out to 1000 yards farthest I have shot it so far.

Welcome to LRH, and enjoy! As others noted, go with an action (you have plenty of custom actions to choose from) that will accommodate a 4" to take full advantage of the long, heavy, high BC bullets.

There are also plenty of choices when it comes to barrels. Recommendations will vary based on experience and preferences. Expect a long wait for custom/top-tier barrels.

I had a RUM Win Model 70 action, I never built the rifle in the end because the 3.6" magazine length was too short for what I wanted.
So, all of mine, 300RUM & 338 Edge have been built on REM 700's. The 338 Edge had a Wyatt's 4" box, my 300RUM is being altered for a 3.85" box.
This is the route I would go.

Cheers.

The 700 action works just fine as stated. By the time you true the action, cut it for a 4" box, and put in a PTG bolt, you are really close to the cost of a defiance classic that is ready to go. You can sell the factory 700 bolt and recoup some cash but in the end you still have a rem 700.
Go full custom :D
