Halloween Chassis Carving

Got my CDG action today. Love this thing! One problem- the greyboe terrain stock I'm dropping it in needs a little carving to you can see in the photos below. The rear screw on the trigger hanger (circled in red) hits the chassis and keeps the action from dropping all the way in. So I'll need to carve a bit on the stock. The bit of masking tape on the chassis shows what I'll need to carve away. I think I'll just hold a 3/16 drill bit against it to mill away a bit of material. Two questions.

1. Any issues trimming in this particular area? Supposedly Greyboe stocks have an internal aluminum frame. Guess I'll know if I hit it.

2. Would it be better to slightly over-cut so that the trigger hanger screw has some clearance between it and the chassis? In theory, the recoil lug is taking all the recoil, but I'm leery of anything putting force on the trigger hanger.

You should contact Grayboe. Any warranty issues and advice they could discuss.

It looks like something is off, whether it's the action or the chassis. I'd definitely call greyboe about that one before I'd drill that out.

As long as your acttion screw holes line up with the holes in stock you'll be fine. I have the Ridgeback and the highlander.

Not aware of an aluminum frame, but they do have aluminum pillars lining the bolt holes. You will get into the rear pillar a little bit based on your marking.

Don't use a drill, as it will walk on you and look like crap. Dremel will as well unless you know what you are doing.

Use a "rat tail" file (small diameter round file) for this and take your time.

Also, you may want to glass bed, at least, the recoil lug area. I did a full bedding job on both of mine.

I agree with x'n tex'n. I have three Greyboe stocks and one wasn't even close in the recoil lug area. The trigger hanger screw in your photo is not uncommon in causing some interference since they don't exist on a Remington. I've had to do the relief on most receivers with a trigger hanger, not really an issue but bedding will be a good idea. contacting Greyboe is not a bad idea.

I've modified 2 of these for a trigger hanger. Both my actions were Kelbly. Just take a Dremel and shave some off. No warranty issues at all. If you bought it as a standard 700 drop in then they do NOT mill anything out for a trigger hanger. There is NO aluminum chassis in a Grayboe but there is aluminum pillars but you are no where near those. If you send it back to Grayboe they will do it for you but you can do it on your own. You don't want any of the trigger hanger or screw making contact as this will cause unnecessary stress. Not a big deal and simple to do. EasyPeasy!!

Thanks guys. I contacted greyboe and they said I'd need to carve for the trigger hanger, the ejection port and the side bolt release. I went the easy way and exchanged it for an eagle pro since that's verified to be drop-in ready for CDG actions. Guess I'll save my carving skills for the pumpkins.
