Oh that's interesting….so as the throat degrades velocity drops off then? Is that basically from throat erosion having created some "freebore" that drops chamber pressure with equal charge weights?
That is the theory. I shoot a lot as PRS competitor. I was running a 6XC a few years ago knowing it was near end of life - at start of match I chronographed and velocity was down about 50 fps - at 600 yards I started having issues with good impacts then a flyer 2 foot away. Pulled that barrel after the match.
 
If you go with the Talon, the first thing I would do is get a real muzzle brake. I cannot tell the difference in recoil with the brake on or off my 6.5-300 Vanguard. I own a number of Vanguards and have found them all to be exceptionally accurate with handloads.
What would you consider, (make) a real brake?
 
My load. Middle of the road. I can add about 200 fps to that easy but I don't "dog" her.
