Stock Options for Model 7

Everything on that build was supposed to be a year wait from the Brux barrel, the defiance action, and the McMillan stock. Even the Wyatt mag box and bottom metal was a wait. I did end up using sunny hill bottom metal. Ordered everything in October and the rifle was in my hands right after I shattered my collarbone bone 1/14. I ended up with a rifle that weighs just over 7 pounds without optic, base and rings. But the barrel is 26.5 inches and a break for 2 more.

My point is you search until you find what you want. Look and keep looking it's out there
Right on! Congratulations on the rifle. Sounds nice.

I made a mistake, I have 6 McMillans. Not 4. A rem 700 and a Mod 70. The 700 took a ridiculous amount of fitting to put a PTG mag box/bottom metal.

I'm just discussing the McMillan stocks for others who search this topic. I like McMillan. I'll buy them again no questions. But someone looking for a true drop in with little or no fitting, might want to look at B&C or HS precision. These are ones I have had experience with.

I did snap a B&C in half and they replaced it no questions asked.

YMMV.

Just some food for thought, if you are not married to a composite, a Boyd's laminate is a option, recently took possession of a Boyd's for my nephews A bolt, he opted for most the whistles and bells, extended LOP forend and pistol grip caps fleur de'lis wrap around checkering, received it in about about 3 weeks

I bought this model 7 6mm Remington back in 2013 with the original wood stock broken by the post office there weren't a ton of options as far as a wood replacement. I found this laminated walnut stock by S&K gunstock online. Had my smith bed the action. It's just a safe queen but shoots pretty good for a skinny 18 1/2" barrel.

Just had my model seven re-chambered to 243 ai. This is a deer rifle. The Remington synthetic stock feels pretty cheap and I've always just lived with it, but now that I've put this kind of time and money into the barrel action I'd like to upgrade it as quickly as possible, in order to hunt with it this November and December. Seems manners or McMillan will be a long leadtime and the only other three options I've found are Bell and Carlson, HS precision, or a stocky next GEN carbon fiber.

Recommendations?
I had a custom rifle built on the Rem M-7 action about 25 years ago and I had it stocked with the "Brown Precision Pound'r stock". I built the rifle with everything I choose based on light weight and that stock only weighs 16 oz. However, its a very stiff stock and that rifle never shifts point of impact from one year to the next and has been a very accurate rifle from day one. A lot of that accuracy is because it's such a good, high quality stiff stock. I don't know what their lead time might be but even if you can't get it delivered in time, it still would be a quality upgrade for your rifle for next year! Here's the page where they still have it listed but you'll have to scroll down to "Pre Finished Stocks": http://brownprecision.com/wp-content/uploads/2020-price-list.pdf

They actually have some of these in stock. The only drawback for me is the factory skinny barrel contour. The other models featuring bigger barrel channels and larger stock sizes are usually out of stock and have been.

Manners had a Model Seven CF camouflage in their 'in stock' store but it was nearly $1,000 with tax and shipping...:(

I put an HS Precision on my wife's 7mm-08 model 7. I had Karl Feldkamp skim bed it and some other cosmetic work. I really like how it turned out. My wife… not so much. She doesn't like how aggressive the texture is on the stock. Now it sits in the safe and she grabs her Howa Alpine every time. 🤷‍♂️

I just got my stockys and it does need a little fitting work, but not much. About 1/2 lb lighter than the model 7 stock that I had on it. gonna work on it after I get my elk rifles tuned up with new loads.

I'd go with Stocky's. Mine ended up being 1.5 lbs I think they are every bit as good as Manners, McMillan, others, and much lighter than McMillan glass, and near half the price of many competitive CF stocks. I believe Stocky's originally mfd the Manners under private label contract but that may be bad info I got. The only downside to Stocky's is they tend to be slippery when wet. I posted a solution to that on this site.

LF,
I ordered a Stocky's today. Going to try that next GEN carbon fiber. Could you link the thread where you addressed a solution to the slippery nature of the stock? Thanks

Just got the stocky stock in and it dropped right in with no fitting. It torqued nicely with plenty of space between the barrel and the stock. Looks and feels awesome and I can't wait to get to the range first of the week. I'm not much of a photographer, but wanted to at least include a couple of pictures. Very svelte little package.

Hopefully when remingon finishes it's move south they re introduce the seven with modern twists. For a compact traditional hunting rifle a model seven plus a stockys is a solid option.

Rifle looks great!
