I have a Kelblys Atlas Lite and I'm looking at prefits. Most are 8-10 weeks out. Proof makes prefits that I can get immediately but have heard of issues in the past.

Found a benchmark blank for around 600 shipped.
Chamber job is 300(end of September early October)
Which makes it cost nearly the same.

Opinions on Proof prefits.

I've had 2 proof pre-fits. One in 6.5 creed and one in 300 prc. Both have been great and sub-moa.

I have two Proof pre-fits. One in 22-250 and one in 300 PRC, they both shoot 1/2" or better. I only really have hunting rifles but I do like for them to be very accurate, the Proofs fit that for me. I killed a prairie dog at 415 with the 22-250, so accurate enough. And their customer service/warranty is very good.

If they cost nearly the same, I'd go with my go-to gunsmith, where I know who is chambering it.

Always prefer my smith chambering it. But proof prefit usually shoot. I'd stay away from them in prc chamberings though unless you plan on running an aw reamer through it

I just pulled a Proof prefit in 6 Dasher from my PRS rifle with 2400 rounds - shooting great all season and still shooting great (did not want barrel to "die" at one of the remaining 2024 matches). Screwed on new Proof prefit in 6 Dasher to finish the season and will use the 2400 round barrel in the off season for practice. I am very pleased with the performance of my Proof prefit.

I have done a lot of pre fit proof barrels and have had no trouble at all with them. they are the only barrel I use when helping hunters that want a long range rifle

I run 2 Proof prefits: 7PRC and a .223. The AW reamer rented from charliehorse totally solved the clicker and early pressure issue on the PRC. The .223 is a tack driver. Really appreciate both barrels and the fact that I could build both rifles on my own bench.

i wouldn't be afraid of a proof if there was a config I wanted. Availability and price is obviously the upside. If I could get a premium blank chambered by a smith of my choosing in the same time frame and cost I'd go that route. If I could get a premium steel barrel instead, I'd go that way too.

Assuming you're talking about carbons and not the heavy steel comp contour barrels that are a great deal.
