Any motorsickle riders on LRH?

I've owned and ridden all types of bikes since I was big enough to. I am currently enjoying a full bore custom built 131 cubic inch powered HD Road Glide that's made to go fast, ride smooth and stop fast. It was a builder's personal bike and I got lucky to catch him in a mood to sell it to build another dream bike for himself. I also got into the BMW adventure bikes a while back and have 2 of them. I ride daily when possible.

Motorcycle riders. I have been riding since I was a kid.
1999 Honda Valkyrie, IMO the best cruising bike ever made. We put thousands of miles on it, one of the first thing I done was put a Pirellie car tire on the back 205x60x16 got over 50000 out of it and was working on 20000 on the sec one. ( Darkside ) . I built the trailer.
And I believe most know I dragraced a bike. I still have a bike a 2016 Switchback.
We never made it to Sturgis, we did do a lot of week and 2 week long rides with others.

I've had to give up my riding. I rode dirt bikes for as long as I remember and did a bit of cross country/harescramle racing. Unfortunately I thought I could ride faster than I could and kept getting hurt so decided street bikes were safer. No crashes on the street but after a few near misses I decided to sell it.
After I had back surgery I developed a drop foot condition in my left foot which makes it difficult to shift now. I sure miss riding but I don't miss the injuries from off road and the idiots on the road!

I had back surgery three years ago and developed Drop Foot too, but in the right foot. It took almost a year of therapy, but have regained the ability to walk without a foot brace…still have nerve damage and neuropathy in that foot.

Unfortunately they said that the nerve was pinched so severely that I would never have full function again. My left foot is only 40% strength compared to my right but I get by.

I used to ride, dirt bikes mainly. I about killed myself doing stupid things as a kid with dirt bikes. My first was an old XR100 Honda, at 16 I found an IT490 Yamaha 2 stroke. That didn't last long before my parents made me sell it, as they knew I was going to kill someone or myself on it.

I bought a new 1999 Suzuki Marauder after working a couple of years at my first real employment after Active duty. I'd saved up the money for it or an 883 Sportster, the Marauder just looked a lot better. A beer truck in rush hour traffic north bound on Academy blvd in CO Springs ended the desire to ride on the street for me. I went back to dirt bikes and quads.

I've had the itch to buy an old Scrambler style bike and ride it the 20 miles into work during spring to fall. I just like the looks of those old Japanese scrambler bikes. I moved out of the CO Springs area to a much more rural community in 2014 in Southeastern CO. Most of the traffic I deal with is farm implements even though I live right off a State Hwy.

Deer on the road at night is my major concern and I'm often driving to and from work in those prime deer movement hours. However, I have no desire to ride on freeways or in larger urban environments ever again. I'd much rather risk farm equipment and wildlife, than deal with idiots in conjestion. So if I get another bike it'll be suitable for day trips down back roads and dirt trails.

I've been looking for something like this bike.

To customize into something like this.

I've got six. 2 dirt bikes and 4 street bikes.
Still have my original 1987 FZR1000 on Nitrous that I drag raced in 1988.
I also have two Victory V-Twins, one naturally aspirated with 145hp at the rear wheel and another blown on E85 with 180hp.
And a slow old man Indian bagger.

Tony

ETA: Here's a video of the blown Victory.

Anyone got any good roadtrip stories?

I have a few.

Had a rear brake hang up enough to turn my rotor cherry red and start my leather saddlebag on fire in the first 5 miles of a solo 6 day, 1300 mile road trip on a (at the time) 24 year old Shovelhead.
It poured rain every day and besides the brake occasionally hanging up, I also had to take the SU carb apart along the road after a small piece of the plastic fuel filter broke off and became lodged in the needle and seat.
Then, the front pin holding the rear caliper fell out and I had to take the caliper all the way off to finish the trip.

Did I mention that I also dropped the bike in a curve in Rockford, Illinois on that trip?

It had been raining hard all day and as I leaned and hit the nice shiny newly painted stripe I thought "Not a good place to lean" and just like that, down she went.
After sliding to a stop, I picked her up repositioned the broken clutch lever and rode off.

Funny part was when I finally pulled into the bar in Tomahawk, Wisconsin (it was their bike party weekend) I couldnt find a spot to put the bike for all the cars and pickups.

Not a bike to be seen.

Keep in mind, it was pouring rain (again).

Walk in the bar and it's nothing but head to toe black leather on every swinging Richard in the place.
I turn back around and look outside. Nope, about the only bike out in the parking lot was mine.

Good times.
