Ok I'm thinking for coyote hunting and truck gun up to deer. I already have the gun built with two other barrels. It's a bighorn origin action, pure precision stock. I was thinking a 243ai with a 18-20" barrel to run my can on. What barrel contour would you go with to keep weight down but still be a good contour that can be threaded 5/8. Not against fluting to save a little weight any advice would be great. Currently have carbon fiber barrels on it.

18" 6 Creed would be my vote. Great factory ammo and brass available, no fireforming, etc. 243 AI is wicked fast though and would be fun too.

Carbon sendero is a good profile, but for steel, I like a light palma or even medium palma depending on length.

My 18" 6 Creed is one of my favorite rifles to shoot/hunt with.

I opted for a 22" Med Palma. This will allow me to test that length & weight to start with, then adjust if needed by shortening / and or fluting if necessary.

What bullets and what speeds are you getting? I'm thinking a 90-95g bullet is it.

22 Creed would be my choice as well.

As for profiles, PVA hybrid lite profile, or a .750 taperless profile (fluted) would be my choice. However, if you are going to have a gunsmith thread and chamber it, you could also just go with a sporter contour and have it threaded 5/8-24 with a permanent collar.

Ok forgot to mention I want to be able
To carry this out coyote hunting. Just want it to be handy in the truck to dual purpose.

How heavy are you comfortable carrying for coyotes?
my typical coyote hunt usually only walking a couple hundred yards ish, so I'm fairly comfortable with a heavy gun

108 ELDM factory ammo is right at 2800

70 gr Blitzking and Varget nets 3500 + (will have to check my notes when I get home).

90s will be somewhere in between and should be cooking.

Maybe 10lbs ready to go.
Something like a light Palma at 16 or 18" will probably get you there. If you are going to go 22CM I'd stay away from fluting and carbon barrels. They are hard on barrels and that's just an extra expense for no real gain. If you need/ want lighter just go to a super thin contour

I run a 16" 243 with 95gr Berger Classic Hunters started at 2823fps. DEADLY on everything from coyotes to pigs. In fact, I think I have more DRTs with that combo on pigs than anything else I run? Just throwing that out there in case your looking for bullet suggestions?

Really thinking an 18-20" 243ai was thinking any of the Berger 90-95 and the Sierra 95tmk or the 90g gamechanger also. Proably get 3000-3100 maybe out of the 243ai with an 18-20" barrel.
