16" 6.5 creedmoor options

Looking for bullet options for my 16" 1:7 twist 6.5 creedmoor. 100gr eld or 123gr eldm. Should keep it under 300 yards with this one.

With that fast of a twist rate, you can essentially use the Berger 156 gr. EOL and still have twist to use up. I have used Hodgdon Hybrid 100V with this combination and the furthest reaches went out to 650 yards with the 1,000 ft/lb limit. This is one of the very few EOL bullets which proved to be consistently accurate in these shorter barrels.

I did try the 123 AMAX for a short while but went on with the 130 class bullets for best accuracy and performance.

Buy, load and shoot to test for the results you are looking for.

Enjoy the process!

:)

156 bergers wouldn't be going very fast out of a 16" barrel. 😅

In my 15" Creedmoor I found 140s perform better ballistically than 120s. The 120s shoot flatter, but the 140s carry more energy past 150 or so and drift less. With a moderate load I'm hitting 2500 with them. I like copper for hunting and Hammer's 139 is the only copper bullet in the 140 range that'll stabilize in a 1:8 barrel, but with a 1:7 you can shoot whatever you want. Berger hybrid hunters and ELD-X worked well for me too.

I built a similar rifle for my son, it has always loved the PRVI 120 BTHP. But the 140 Hornady BTHP's have also done very well. He's taken half a dozen deer and one elk with it.

Now that's just awesome, never thought it would do that at distance

A 140gr federal fusion would be a choice bullet in that. They're not as accurate as a 147 eldm in my rifle, but dang close and performance on game is optimal from what I've seen.

Pretty awesome. How fast was that 140 gr going?

I load for my 7YO sons 16", 7.5twist 6.5CM.

123 ELDMs @ 2700
108 Scenars @ 2800
97 Absolute Hammers @ 3200
140 ELDMs don't recall velocity
156 EOL don't recall velocity

It shoots them all very well.

For the distance he shoots, drift and trajectory don't matter. And when BC is moot, velocity kills. The 123s and 108s really surprised me. They are emphatic killers. The Absolute Hunters have not been used on game yet, but we all know what they are going to do. The lighter bullets also produce less recoil, so there's that.

I love the camo job on the stock

My personal choice would be the 80gr Hammer HHT. Should be able to get close to 3500 fps and it will hit with more velocity at 400y than most of the other bullets mentioned will have at the muzzle.
