Burris XTR III 3-18x input

I have not been impressed with mine. It has massive slop/lash in the elevation knob enough to freely move half way between clicks. When I first got it it also had a horribly soft/mush windage knob, you could barely feel the clicks. I also verified that the "slop" in the elevation knob was just not free play but the reticle was moving.

I sent it back to Burris twice, the first time they fixed it all they did was address the windage knob issue by replacing a "pin" this did fix the windage knob problem, but they did nothing about the slop in the elevation knob. I sent it in a second time at their request after I responded the elevation knob still had massive slop/lash in it. However their repair team evaluated it and said the slop/lash was "functioning properly and is within all advertised factory specifications."

I've owned hundreds of optics over the decades from $300 to $3000 and none of them have ever had this much lash in the erector adjustments. Seems to be a common complaint with the XTR III's, but it varies quite a bit sample to sample.

Calm them explain you are not satisfied and want to trade up for a different model. I did this and they upgraded me and gave me 2 50% off coupons and I love the glass I got . I've nothing bad to say about them , their customer service was good in my opinion

That's actually an interesting idea, not sure what kind of response I'll get. I did ask about just getting a strait replacement after it was not fixed the first time but they were unwilling to do that. Probably depends on who you get and on what day.

Well it was a good idea, but no go with the person I talked to, they seemed pretty annoyed I would even suggest having it replaced or swapping to another optic like the XTR Pro etc.

Funny thing is I had removed the o-ring from the elevation knob to see if it would improve the feel at all because the knob was very stiff/mushy to start, and forgot to replace it. So it went back to them twice, and either they didn't notice it while testing either time, which is hard to believe, or they just didn't bother to replace it.
