Looking at standard/ crossover tool boxes. Any brands to stay away from/ look for? I'm looking for something to secure basic tools, chain saw during the winter, etc. I don't necessarily need it to be bomb proof but would prefer it not to grow legs easily.

What are you buying if you need one?

Weatherguard.

I bought one new that survived 4 trucks, the next-to-last one of which I totaled in a head-on collision and the toolbox was still fine.

Got Weatherguard now that I have used for about eight years. I would buy another or would look at a Wickum Welding.

Weatherguard. Buy once, cry once. Being in construction for the last 34 years, I have tried the cheapos when I was young and poor. And replaced them every couple years of daily use. Weatherguard will outlive the truck you put it on. They ARE worth he price tag that is 3x the price of cheap boxes. They will outlast 10 of those Husky boxes if you actually use them. Plus, they have way more options for size, style, capacity, etc. I like the low profile, deep crossboxes myself. They don't obstruct as much view, but hold a lot of gear still. And also leave room to still slide materials under them in the truck bed. Plus you can choose different dimensions on how far you want it to extend behind the cab.

UMS is a little bit cheaper. I had a couple sets I bought for crew members work trucks. Good product there too. If you don't abuse them, they will last a long time too. Just not quite as well built as Weatherguard. But for the occasional user who isn't in and out of it multiple times a day every day, they would work very well.

Pro-Tech cross body welded aluminum box. They are the very BEST!, you will pay for it. I think they have a steal version now that is a little more affordable.
