Never Spoil your Bird Dog!

Hey,

So when I was growing up most bird dogs stayed outside, were fed table scraps and cheap dog food. They certainly weren't spoiled. So here's what happens in my house now. This is my soon to be 13 year old Brit. She's an incredible bird dog, I'll hunt her half days this year and it'll probably be her last big hunting year.

Same same, had farm dogs who doubled as hunting dogs, now I have a silver lab who wants to hunt but also loves the couch.

You betcha!!!! My son gave me a Lab puppy after I retired. It's been so rewarding training her ( not a dog trainer ) lol. She picked up close to 40 ducks and doves for us this year at 11 months old. My hunting dog and my shadow!!! So yep I spoil her

Love Brittany's! Easiest dogs to train. I grew up with lemon and liver pointers. I don't think God ever made a more stubborn dog. A friend gave me a Brit nearly forty years ago and I never looked back. I have owned and trained a half dozen since, a German short haired and a couple of Weimaraner. My son owns a Weimar I trained now. The only way to have a good bird dog is to spoil them. Use to have one that would go to the truck and load up if you missed more than three or four birds in a row!

Said he wasn't hunting for free.

My Grand father used to feed him the heads. Ole Joe was definitely spoiled.

my best friend is a yellow lab . Sally is 2 . I'm no trainer . I worked with her to blood trail deer . this past archery season she found 3 , that would have got away . I've been working with her to find shed antlers , she has found 2 .

Mine has cancer has picked up over 2500 birds in his life time. My buddy. I trained was my shadow. Still my best friend. The quail was something I never do which is shoot the quail at my house but I had a weak moment and he was 3 months post surgery so away we went. Had a vet appointment today. Cancer is back nothing more we can do really our options were another surgery or chemo. He's 8.5 and we just can't swing it. Beyond proud of my spoiled bird dog.

Yep, and most of the time, as a species, we don`t deserve them IMHO. For me it`s not hard to agree with the saying, " I like all dogs more than I do most people. " I do believe that God gave man the dog to show him what pure, unadulterated love looks like.

Yep, good boy! I think it`s safe to say he would be cause for pause for an intruder!
