For the past couple of years I have had a goal of making the VHA 1000 yard club with a run of the mill .22-250 shooting 55 grain bullets. I have been using a reworked Kimber 84M Varmint topped with a 6.5-20 Leupold with target turrets shooting 55 Horn V-Max bullets and a Remington VSSF II topped off with a 5.5-22 Nightforce shooting 55 grain Bergers.
I teach school in central Wyoming so I have plenty of time to be picky about the weather. Yesterday was calm as can be and I got a 1047 yard kill just after 7:00 am. I don't even want to dicuss the resources that went into shooting a p-dog at that distance with a .22 caliber shooting 55 grainers.
Now that I made my goal, the barrel is coming off of the Remington in favor of a .260 tube. Anyhow, I did learn a lot of stuff along the way. For instance, I once considered a varmint weight .22-250 a long range rifle. It isn't...
