Broke in my new 6.5 PRC I built on 3 Oct. This was a DIY hunt on BLM land. Conditions were horrible with all the rain the area received. Lots of area were inaccessible due to the muddy conditions. Shot was 585 yards with a 6.5 PRC shooting hand loaded 143 eldx's @ 3083 fps. DRT results. Buck is short and stocky, 14 1/2 on hook side and 12 5/8 on other side, but has lots of mass 7" bases and 6 7/8" prongs. Taxidermist green scored gross of 84 6/8" but has alot of deductions and may not make 80" after drying. Dont matter I could not be happier with him!

Great buck. Would not mind details of the hunt. Location and stalk, etc. Congrats to you.
Was a spot and stalk/ truck hunt in Bighorn County, WY area. Week before the season Temps were in high 80's pushing 90. Opening day on the first it cooled a bit but still was hot. Covered lots of ground trying to find any herds and was not looking good. Seen 3 small bucks and very few does. The 2nd day it rained in the morning turning roads and two tracks to a sloppy mess. 3 rd day continued to rain and thought well...go and try to go on some main dirt roads to aleast get out there and see if I could turn up anything in a different area of the unit. Got caught in a down pour and almost got stuck in the clay. Slowly making trying not to get stuck on my way back out I spotted him about 700 yards out bedded all by himself in the middle of a golden field of grass. All I could see was the big hook and prongs sticking up and was able to stalk to a good shooting position then the wait was on. Seems like a eternity for him to stand up for the shot. Finally he got up and I shot broadside @ 585 high shoulder and DRT. All smiles after that no ground shrinkage of those prongs/hook.

Let's hear about the gun too!
It is a Bighorn TL3 short action, Hawkings hunter DBM, TT special trigger @ 1.5 lbs, 6.5 PRC Proof 26" 7.5 twist prefit CF barrel. Area 419 break, Flatline Ops bubble, McMillan Game warden adjustable stock topped with a Leupold Mark5 5-25x56. Stock bedded and gun assembled by me. Load was some 143 Eldx's with H1000, 210GM and Lapua brass with a 2.970 Oal. chronograph'd @ 3042, MV cal out at 750 yards as 3083 fps. Below is the 750 yards 3 shot group and that's not the only one like that! It just flat shoots!
