7PRC barrel length

I settled on the 24". Lone peak fusion action with proof carbon prefit. Screwed on and timed up perfectly. Just did some break in rounds yesterday. Will get some preliminary velocity's shooting factory hunter precision 175s later this week

I saw this. They didn't post velocity but energy was posted. It seemed like there wasn't much of a difference. Leaning toward the 22"

I was going to go with the 7 PRC, but I couldn't find ammo or brass. It was easier to go with the 7x300 win mag.

Seems like a lot of guys are going bigger case with shorter barrel to hunt suppressed with a shorter overall length package, but similar performance to a smaller case with a longer barrel.

The 7 PRC seems to show good promise in 18-20" barrels

If I were not going to suppress, I'd go 22-24. For hunting suppressed I'd go 18-20.

Good luck and post your results for us!

My wife went with a 28" barrel. She thinks if she is going to deal with magnum recoil, she wants magnum performance. She likes to use a can from time to time and the length doesn't bother her. She shoots PRS with a 22lb rifle, so another 4 ounces of weight doesn't bother her either.

I took a 26" barrel 7 PRC to Texas back in December, suppressed the entire time, and killed 14 deer with it. I think I've built 25 or so 7 PRC rifles now, and I don't hate any of them.

That's what she says 🤣

Fun fact. I was getting 2870 out of the factory ammo (175 ELDX), good accuracy but my ES was around 35-40 in every group. So I whipped up some handloads with some Reloder 26 and it was an almost dead on match to the Hornady published chart. I was using the Saterlee method but I did have two rounds for every .5 grain increments. 3015 and 3019 at 67 grains with no signs of pressure. Using a Garmin Xero for data. FWIW
