7-300 Norma Mag Improved. IT’S ALIVE!!

I used to use a 338 Lapua on everything. Oryx, elk and even shot a coues deer with it lol. I eventually decided that I wanted to try something different. I am now a 7mm fan. I have a 7 PRC and my son has a 7 MAX. I load for two of my buddies who have 7 REM mags.

Barely any recoil with a brake on it is why I think I like it so much haha. Knocking on wood but we havnt lost an animal yet. We almost did because a friend of one of my buddies was using his 7 mag to shoot an oryx and made a bad shot and hit it in the stomach. Luckily we were able to sneak up on it while it was bedded and finish it.

It's interesting to hear other people's stories because it can show the vast differences in experiences that people have had when hunting.

Dogs it was a close shot, buried to fletch.Im a long time archer. One friend has taken 11 frontal,20 yrds type.Thats how they come in a lot calling another 6-7.Its not a shot I would recommend but Ive taken when point blank.I also shoot daily.I shot 2 years before without missing a day.I think bears are one of the easiest to kill ,but I've sen them hit and go for miles, just like elk.Ive put arrows threw the blade on both, not on purpose, the bear was a hog type, 7' and I thought I was behind, big crack when I hit, lucky was 20 yard and 74# PSE mach 6.
The frontal is deadly. I've killed a couple of bulls with the frontal. Both looked like murder scenes.

Yeah after crunching some numbers and actually getting the cartridge set up and see the performance, I'm definitely committed to testing the 7mm for a while.

Have we heard anything on barrel life yet?
My current benchmark barrel has 100 rounds on it. 80 rounds of H1000 and 20 rounds of N570. It looks excellent. I have been a little more careful with it though. 3 round groups instead of 5.

The first barrel looked torched in 123 rounds. But actually still shoots excellent haha. It now has 278 rounds on it (155 rounds fire forming).

Idk if that brux had softer metal, or if I was really that hard on it honestly. We'll found out soon, because it's getting another Brux on it here shortly, that will only see H1000.

I think the first barrel made it 72 hours
Yeah I smoked that thing lol. But not intentionally either. I didn't think I was that hard on it. Maybe it was getting a little hotter than I thought though.

Current barrel looks MUCH better.

Got another pile of stuff for @Barehandlineman11 hahaha. The new 7-300 NMI barrel. Going to be a #6 Brux 1-9 twist finished at 24".

Then a full setup on a bat vesper SA and manners pro hunter for a 6 PRC and 22 Creedmoor. Just swap the bolt and barrel on that.

I thought I had a problem but I feel better now knowing I'm just in the junior varsity team compared to you 🤣
