.300 Norma magnum for hunting??

Sold my 300NM, posted the following in the for sale section:

300NM Redding type S bushing neck die and body die: $200
TiNi Redding .336 bushing: $20

These dies are hard to find!

So I just got my Sako TRG-42 back from GA Precision for a re-barrel, chamber job, threaded to M18x1.0 and to coat the barreled action.

Great work, the chamber job was spot on. I sent them a Bartlein 5R Remington Varmint Contour in a 1:8" twist that they chambered to 300 Norma Magnum and threaded at 27.25" just like the factory TRG barrel. Turned out to be a perfect match to the factory barrel and shoots bugs holes already with the load I pulled out of thin air for break-in.

83.5 H1000 F215M Norma Brass @ 2.8470" CBTO = 3.600"/0.010" off the lands. I only have twenty round down the barrel, but with this kind of load workup I'm pretty much going to stick with it unless something changes after further testing LR.

Avg. 2889 fps @ 20' from the muzzle w/the 230 grain Berger Hybrid Target. The two bullet holes at the top of the page on target #1 were two rounds I wanted to just see how fast that bullet could be pushed, 2987 fps but the accuracy sucked. So I put together 3 more of my break-in load and punched them into the middle of the 5 shot group from the day before.

As it turned out that load just so happens to be right at node 5 @ 1.3801

So I decided to measure my last target, Zero the scope, and test it with the Factory Sako Bipod off the bench w/a rear bag. Sure enough, spot on. This is one of the best 3 shot groups I've ever shot with a Super Magnum off a bipod at 100 yards, in the .1's.

After that I uploaded the data to the Shooter App on my old phone and headed out to pound some steel at 272 yards and 445 yards, all first round hits and I gotta say.... I really like this rifle! I have a 1300 yard spot for shooting the same piece of steel, but the mirage and wind was already bad so I'll head out there another time early AM when I get the chance.

Nice work, thanks for the post! I have been working on a load for hunting season and am pushing the 230's pretty hard...
88 grains of Retumbo
CCI 250 primers
3.600" COL
3036 fps, 17 fps SD with a 24" 1:9 twist Broughton barrel via Magnetospeed V3
1/2 -.75 moa at 850 yards. The brass is only good for 3-4 firings but I guess high performance comes at a price!

Nice! This is just getting going so I've yet to fully test it, but so far the load seems to work very well. Hopefully my brass will last a lot longer, I wish this stuff was as tough as the Lapua brass I sold you, but Oh well!

I was watching a hunting show where some long range shots are taken. The host was using a 300 Norma mag and stated he was shooting a 208 A-MAX at 3240 fps. I'm shooting a 300 Norma mag and 208 A-MAX at 3100 fps using 88.8 gr of H1000 from a 28" barrel. My question. Is there enough gas in the tank to reach 3240 fps? Possibly another node that could be reached with Retumbo or Re 33. My rifle is stupidly accurate at 3100 fps. 140 fps might be worth some testing.

Can I use a fl sizer on 338 nm brass to form 300 norma brass? Everywhere I looked online was either sold out of 300 norma or the 338 was cheaper. Cant I simply neck it down? I already ordered the 338n brass. So I hope I can haha

I think you'll be able to reach 3240fps w/ a 208 AMAX. Here's the real question: are you willing to toss your brass after 2-3 firings using that load? Granted, this was with berger 215's, but I was tossing brass after 3 firings with stout RE-33 loads.

Nice shooting. Is the recoil somewhat like a 300 Winchester? Whatis your rigs weight?
