30 sherman magnum

Easy decision, unless you don't reload.

With this being the forum it is, I kinda think if a person doesn't reload or have someone reload for them or a place custom outfit do their loads and work up- they were just followers, which doesn't affect the mathematics for the rest of us at all.

I only have two Saami chambered rifles in my safe. One is a Tikka 17HMR.

Not that there is a hierarchical stance or anything, but LR is what it is.

Here is my data so far. I made an excel sheet that graphs velocities at each charge weight. Makes the nodes easier to see for some people.

Thats pretty good! you're only losing 40'/inch with N570 in a 20" barrel.
Try some RL 26 and see if it might keep up with a better burn
?

Made it to the range today after work. Snowing and windy.
So with my set up and not wanting to single feed my rounds I am jumping the 250gr A-Tips 0.084". At 88gr of RL33 the bullet is crunching powder.
I ran another 5 rounds starting at 88gr and ended on 89.2gr. I could go higher if I wanted to.
88.0gr; 2963fps
88.3gr: 2983fps
88.6gr: 2988fps
88.9gr: 3011fps
89.2gr: 3017fps
I also shot the following
250gr A-Tips, 87.2gr RL33
ES=12, SD=6 average speed 2945fps.
250gr A-Tips 87.3gr RL33
ES=12, SD=6 average speed 2961fps
250gr A-Tips, 87.4gr RL33
I did something wrong . ES=40, SD=20, average speed 2956fps

I put the 1st 3 shots in one hole and then I fell apart on the target below.

That's really fast for a 250 and only 89 grains!

I have RL33, 250's and a 29" RUM barrel throated for 4.155 COAL that I have yet to install... wasn't expecting more than 3050 with 10-15 grains more capacity.

Very nice

I wasn't expecting to be able to run the 250's over 2950fps. After my initial load workup I realized that I would be able to get over the 3000fps hump. Really surprised that I didn't hit pressure signs. No heavy bolt lift, hard extraction or flattened primers. I might revisit this on a warmer day. It was cold (28 F) out yesterday when I was at the range.

Things definitely could change in warm weather but you'll still be in the mid 2900 range either way. Very impressive for sure.

I am getting higher extreme spreads than I'm used to with the 250gr A-Tips and RL33. Wish I had some powder options. Went out a few days ago running 86.9gr up to 87.2gr RL33 in 0.1gr jumps with 5 rounds each charge weight. 87.1gr and 87.2gr were running close at 2970fps with extreme spread around 20fps at each charge weight. I was shooting at 200 yards in 30mph winds and probably should have stuck with 100 yards. My groups were not the greatest and barely under a minute. They were a little sticky while ejecting but otherwise looked good and sized no problem. I have decided to try slowing it down a little and try 86.2 up to 86.6 to see if they do better. To conserve components and barrel life I am going to try 3 rounds each. If they shoot like crap I am either going to try running them longer 0.025" jump and single feed. I might have to try the 230gr A-Tips. Always a challenge.
I am running ADG brass that I am induction annealing after each firing, wet tumble, full length size 0.333" bushing with a 0.0015" shoulder bump, expander mandrel (Sinclair) 0.002" neck tension, chamfer, debur and tumble in a vibratory ttumbled, my flash holes have been debur and primer pockets uniforming done. Skimmed the necks when the brass was new.
I am polishing the inside of my necks with steel wool along with dry neck lube to reduce the friction coefficient. The A-Tips are running deeper in the case than the 225gr ELDM's. The A-Tips are similar to how the 220gr ELDX run in my 300WM. I wound up doing the same thing with my 300WM and was able to achieve 3/8 moa accuracy with single digit ES and SD's.
In the end I am hoping to get this barrel to last long enough to shoot the Nightforce ELR match in Casper this June. The rate I'm going it's going to be close. I've had the barrel on since the end of Oct and have 580 rounds down the tube with 0.014" throat erosion since 125 rounds. . I am more worried with the fire cracking than the minimal erosion of the lands right now.. I need to be smarter about how I run this one.
Any pointers are appreciated. I am probably over thinking things and going way to far at the reloading bench than I probably need to. Who knows.

I've seen it asked in a few posts on this thread, but haven't seen anyone say if they have actually tested and had luck with Retumbo?

It's been stated it's hard to find but there's been some popping up lately so wondering if anyone has tried it in the 30SM?

Yes, its been used successfully by a couple people. I think Carl Scott in Wy. was up near 3000' with 245's and shot some impressive groups.
A little slower than N570, but still very good.
