    215 Berger Target for hunting

OK now I see your point. If I was building a custom rifle you are exactly right getting the bullet as far out as possible. Just using what I have on hand to get a somewhat decent rifle. I think I can get 3.7 to fit as I loaded 3 dummy's and they worked. Thanks for your input.

    215 Berger Target for hunting

rfurman24 I don't quite understand your statement above. I had a wore out Weatherby 300 and the stock magazine is 3.600. I had a Brux barrel installed chambered for the 300 WM and told the smith I wanted the bullet to just touch the lands with the 215 Berger loaded at 3.6. That way I could look...

    215 Berger Target for hunting

Hey you guys thanks for all the info on the 215's. Got to the reloading bench yesterday and after some checking I think my rifle smith has the bore too deep. With the 215's at max magazine length 3.6 I'm roughly .200 off the lands. I think he misunderstood what I wanted. OK with that, what...

    215 Berger Target for hunting

Hey it's been awhile. Yep things are good. Just been really busy and kinda drifted away from the forum. Had an old Weatherby laying around so had it re-barreled and a chamber cut (300 WM) so I could load the long Bergers. Checkin the chamber last night and he cut it a little deeper then I...

    215 Berger Target for hunting

Thanks you guys. Yes Broz now that you have refreshed my mind. I remember reading his post. He talked the 215's up a lot. I'm gonna give them a try. rfurman24. If you use them in a 300 WM whats your load? I have some 7828 and thinking about starting around 74 gr. and work up. Will start at 3.6...

    215 Berger Target for hunting

Who was the fella a few years back on this forum from Montana who used the 215 gr Berger Target for hunting elk and had took a bunch with no issues at long range. I just finished a 300 WM on a Mark 5 Weatherby receiver and have a few hundred of these bullets so thinking I would give them a try...

    Hslr ffp vs sfp

I have the Vortex HS LR 4-16 FFP on my main elk and deer rifle but going to swap it out for a SFP scope (not sure witch one yet) and here is why. Last season had a really good bull coming down a ridge in the timber. It was a rainy cloudy day just breaking daylight and he was about 300 yards so I...

Leica 1600 B range finder question

In order for the 1600B to spit out an adjusted horizontal range you have to choose one of the built in ballistic curves. If you can find one that fits your rifle you are good to go. The manual explains how to do this. None of them fit any of my loads so I just use the slope degree and enter...

    30-06 Reloading, new to it

You are correct with the Berger manual and the 48-54.4 grains. What range are you shooting at 200? Shooting in the wind sucks mentally anyway. I won't shoot when working up a load unless it is still. I use RL17 a lot in the 06 and use QuickLoad to get started. I want the powder to burn out...

    Quickload

QuickLoad is just a tool that helps you get close with a lot of options as you seem to know. There is no software on the planet that will figure the best load for your rifle as there are just too many unknown variables. I use QuickLoad all the time but for me the acceptable load and bullet is...

    Win 270 Pre 64

Yep the scope will hit that. You can remove it if you choose. I dug that old barrel out and this is it and it folds down out of the road. 1960.

    Win 270 Pre 64

Possibly someone replaced the original sight with an aftermarket. Is the sight running back with a stepped ramp under? My rear sight sets right above the notch in the barrel with a built in elevation adjuster and folds down. What year is that rifle. Mine is 1960. The earlier sights might have...
