Getting a new pickup, help me decide

My last Toyota wasn't a truck, but a '06 Corolla S which I bought for the gas milage, it never dropped below 32 mpg even at WOT the most of the time, if I slowed down to 55 mph would get 42 mpg! That is not a typo either! It was a manual 5 speed, never needed anything other then the oil changed @ 3K, and for the first 120,000 miles just new tires, and one brake job! Sold it to my brother, he put another 227,000 miles on it and just bought a new '18 Corolla. Cheapest car to drive I ever owned!

But Yah, I've owned two Cumming Diesels, three F-150's, and one 1995 Chevy 1500 IMO, the Chevy wasn't my cup of tea. I had to sell it in Denver CO and buy a 1996 Dodge 2500 Cummings 5 spd. since the Chevy wasn't able to pull my 5th wheel over the passes w/o smoking the transmission! Not for towing, and that was a all aluminum light weight 27' RV at only 7,500 GVWR. The '96 Dodge was a great truck, got great mpg, but the transmission lost 5th gear twice, only for me to completely rebuild it with a full splind main shaft and new HD gears, and whatever else Quad 4x4 put into it.

If you tow, Turbo Diesel's and/or Turbo gas engines haul the best, and No I don't live at 6,000+ feet anymore. Which unlike sleek bullets has the opposite effect at high elevation! Even here at 2,300 it still sucks less oxygen vs. forced air systems which effects engine output no matter how many liters or C.I. you're running. Gas milage suffers too with NA engines vs. turbo charged small engines.

But like everything else we all like certain styles, or brands, and at the end of the day they all go from point A to B, how we get their is our own choice, and rightfully so!
 
Have a 16" 2500 Cummings crew 4x4 and have not had one issue thus far. Keep the fluids changed and try and dodge the ****** drivers in the road is all u need to remeber. I have a 30 ft bumper pull camper that weighs 8k and I pull that ol girl at 80 mph and don't know she is back there. I got a tradesman which had the 3:42 gears instead of 3:73 and I get around 18-20 on highway and around 13-14 hauling camper. Been looking at Denali Duramax now just because of the interior. My C6 Corvette made 31 mpg. At 75mph
 
Running empty with my 2016 F150 XLT crew cab & the bigger 6 w/turbos I get 23mpg. Towing my 1600lb trailer I get about 15-16 @ 55-60mph and 12 mpg at 72mph.
 
I would think there is a little stretching of the truth in some of these replies. Buy what the H++L you want to. You can have the rest I will have the best!!
 
My Toyota Rav 4 only gets about 19 to 22 mpg at best, and my plow & wood truck 1999 dodge 1/2 ton gets about 11 to 12 mpg on the road. I think when I had my three different Toyota Tacoma pickups I only got about 15 to 18 mpg. I never said the Toyotas got the most miles per gallon, but they sure did rack up the miles before you had to put any money into them. They are way more dependable then any of the American brand vehicles that have been mentioned in these threads. There are exceptions I guess, but I have owned every make mentioned and they couldn't come near to the Toyota's dependability. That has been my experience. Savage Ruger Winchester thing. Our preferences are often rooted in emotions, and definitely every one's experiences are different. Some folks have had nothing but hardship and heartache with brand x, while their neighbor has had exactly the opposite . Personally, I own Ford. I bought a 2001 F250 Super Duty, V10 gas new. Been a great truck. 220000 miles , still has the original plugs in it. I effing hate Chevrolet. And Toyota ? Crap, don't get me started. Welded too many Dodges back together to ever buy one. No experience with Nissan, prolly won't either. In the end, it all boils down to personal preference and honestly, it looks like a crap shoot, or predicting the weather. 50per cent chance of rain today-might rain, might not. Buy what you want, and buy with confidence.
