My little girl turns 12 later this year and is proving to be quite the hunter. I'm hoping to get her in the Arizona draw for a cow elk but admittedly, I know next to nothing about it. Do any of you have any pointers or advice? We're a little behind the ball. Apps are due in a couple of weeks. Any experienced advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pick an early October cow hunt. Hunt them just like you would an early rifle or archery bull hunt.

Get out early before hunting light, and cow call. Listen for a bull to bugle nearby, and take off after them. Bulls will still have cows hanging around in early October.

Weather will be much nicer than the early December cow hunts too. Plus, cow hunts are way easier than late rifle bull hunts anyway.

Was just looking at that. Looks like she would need to draw a tag for 6A or 5BS first. But the Youth camp looks like a great thing for kids. I'll look at it more and maybe give the AES a call.
Have you ever been to the elk camp?
I have not . My buddy was a member of the elk society and told me about it . I just never had the time from work to help. 6a is usually the unit we hunt for elk in.

^^^^ this x10. 5BS is a high success fantastic unit to hunt and has good access and would be great for a youth hunt. It's got a great Elk herd on it and also good for a youth hunt as it's not extremely rugged either. Lots of different terrain to hunt from the large areas of Juniper rolling hills to the Pine and Oak forest areas also. I know that unit very well and have hunted Elk on it 4 different times. Good luck and reach out via PM for any questions in the unit if you draw it.
