Hey, more confusion...45-105-550 or 50-90-475 or 45-70-500....

Or this one..45-90-550...45-100-550...45-110-550....45-120-550...punch line can all be the same cartridge loaded by Sharps on the same case length just with different weight of BP/wads combo....

Cartridge designation is a strange and wonderous world....

Another interesting fact for you, the Mike Walker designed 222Remington is also based on a scaled down version of the 30-03 case…as is stated many times, there is nothing new under the sun.

Wild world of wildcats, the 204 is based off the 222. When it came out it oddly became a popular parent case. Was at a range in Eastern Oregon talking to a fellow who was working up a load on a portable bench behind the line. It was a 223-204..... with custom dies 204 headstamped brass and a barrel engraved 223-204.... serious as a heart attack had re invented the original parent.


One of the quirks of the gun world.... some day they will decide to neck the 22 Creedmoor up to 6.5..... for better barrel life.

I have a 6 PPC barrel stamped 6-220 Russian, even though that's not the real parent case.

The 6 PPC is a necked up 22 PPC, which is a modified 220 Russian, which is a modified 30 Russian Short.

But the actual step of necking up a 220 Russian and fireforming is a single step, so the underlying (il)logical theory holds.

Whole series of wild cats based off the .303 British rimmed cartridge, even the 7.62x54r has a host of them.

I have even encountered a .303/.300 H&H Magnum on a P14/M1917 conversion .300 chamber with a .303 barrel ...phenomenal accuracy with BSA stamps and proofs. It went to a collector overseas.

Then you have the ammunition and bullet companies reinventing the wheel.
