Sorry was not trying to high jack your thread just wanted you to know that there is issues with the older guns . To be careful if you by the 742 off of a site before you buy because they are bringing high dollar. I have the Ruger 96 in the 44mag it is a 100 yard and under742s got a bad rap due to a lot of people thinking that a half of a can of 3 In One Oil was needed for action lube. And there was/is the WD-40 on everything crowd. Both instances caused a lot of 742 problem
We called the 742 jamomatics. Once they get where on the bolt slides. If you can find one new old stock you would be in good shape
